New Page #23: Stay
New Page #23!

One of my favorite parts about making webcomics is all of the people I’ve gotten to know all over the country—and world! My Facebook page is an interesting place because I am connected with so many people I don’t know. But I see your status updates anyway. I see you when you are waiting for your spouses overseas to come back home, when your loved ones pass away, when you ace that big exam, and lose your job. I’ve seen babies born, admission into dream schools, and vacations to exotic locations I can only dream of visiting.
My newsfeed is a big pot of diverse experiences and opinions that helps me feel connected to a bigger world when my own can feel very small sometimes, working from home, alone.
I don’t know when Roberta and I became friends through Facebook, but we did. Chatting occasionally on messenger, I learned that she loved The Dreamer, she loved Alan Warren, and I learned that Roberta was fighting cancer.
Her updates on the matter were always upbeat, positive but throughly honest. She inspired me. As a sensitive artist, I can get caught up naval gazing. Roberta’s comments reminded me that people can suffer horrible things and still come out stronger.
This sweet girl, far too young to have to shoulder such a burden, took it on herself to fight this thing to the end.
And she did: to cancer’s end, not her own.
Congratulations, Roberta! I am so grateful you are a part of The Dreamer family!

Roberta a few months ago with a package of Dreamer Swag… and even better, Roberta today!
Can everyone join me in giving her a hearty Dreamer “hip, hip, huzzah!”?
Hip, Hip, Huzzah!
