Bea Turns One!

One year ago today I created the first drawing for The Dreamer!  So today is Bea’s first birthday!

If you click on the link you can see the whole picture and read the story behind it.

Obviously, The Dreamer has come a long way since then, and it’s sort of hard to believe that it was just a year ago that I had no idea who General Howe, Nathan Hale or Thomas Knowlton were.  This project happened fast!  I quit my job to pursue telling this story in June, on July 4th we launched The Dreamer as a seven page teaser story, in August I was interviewed by Comics Buyers GuideThe Dreamer became a regular, weekly comic in September and we’ve been going strong ever since!

This has been quite a year!  Thanks for reading, supporting, donating, and voting! And Happy First Birthday, Bea!

New Pages-20 & 21!

I hope you all had great holidays!  I did.  My awesome in-laws (no, that’s not a contradiction!) bought me The Illustrated 1776 by David McCullough!  I was so jazzed.  It was one of those things where I already owned 1776 so I didn’t really *need* it… but I sure as heck wanted it!

Well, Christmas is over so it’s back to business as usual–Friday Updates!

 Alan & Bea page 21

Enjoy pages 20 and 21.  (link!)  We’re back to the story as usual (and I hope you can take Alan seriously after all the silliness in the funny strips). Bea doesn’t seem to have a problem talking to Alan like she does poor Ben!  Is that… flirting?  I didn’t think she knew how..!

And don’t forget to Vote for The Dreamer!

Merry Christmas Funny Strip #2!

All right, Merry Christmas everybody!  I did part two of the Christmas funny strip I posted on Friday because, really, what sort of beau would Alan be if he didn’t give Bea something in return?  On today’s strip he searches through his (very limited) belongings looking for that special something.  I think he’s close:

 Army rations, yum!

I hope you all have a Merry Christmas!  And hopefully I’ll see you Friday with your normal updates.  All this goofiness has got to stop!  I have to bring some legitimacy back to this comic before you all leave me! Love you guys,  have an amazing holiday & God bless.

Merry Christmas Funny Strip!

Merry (almost) Christmas everybody!   I did get my work finished for Vertigo this week, with enough time to give you all present.  I promised you something this week, so here it is, the first ever The Dreamer funny strip!

Beau Smith and I, years ago, worked on a comic pitch called Courting Fate.  Everyone’s favorite part of the pitch was always the funny strips I put in the back.  Mike has been getting on my case for awhile now to do The Dreamer funny strips.  Well, starting The Dreamer has been a lot of work!  But things are finally starting to pick up momentum without as much effort on my behalf.  Which means time for things like catching my breath and being creative.  This week I wrote several funny strips, this is the first one.  If you like them, we might work out an arrangement to where you’d get some more…
