Hey guys, new Pages 23 & 24! Guess what? This is the end of Issue #7! I hope you’ve enjoyed it. It was a nice little break from the past but… I think Bea might be just as mixed up at the end of the issue as she was at the beginning, if not more.

(The guy at the bar is a cameo of my friend Beau Smith. He likes to think he’s the way Bea described him… but Ben & I know better! Long before The Dreamer we worked on a project together called Courting Fate. My success in this industry can be singularly traced back to this one man, and he has stuck by my side and promoted my work to anyone who will listen. Picking on him in public is my way of saying “Thanks.”)
This issue was really fun for me to draw. I’m almost sad to go back to drawing frock coats & petticoats. (Err, I guess Bea’s petticoat is somewhere on Long Island, so I doubt we’ll be seeing that thing again…!) But I do sort of miss drawing guns… :)
Because getting The Dreamer published has been so much work… I am sorry to tell you that I haven’t finished writing issue #8 yet. It just got pushed to the back-burner while other, more pressing stuff was attended to. This… has never happened to me! The script exists, but I haven’t broken it down into pages & panels yet and I don’t feel comfortable moving forward with the artwork until I do that. As such, there will be no Comic Update next week while I finish up the script. But… if all goes according to plan, there is an extra-special update we hope to give you instead. Keep your fingers crossed and check back next Friday!
Some fun Dreamer press this week. The first is a 20 minute interview I did with Bill Love (Comic Related) last week at his store Comics 2 Games that hosted the Graphic Novel Release Party. This really was an interesting interview for me to give, and hopefully for you to listen to! (I know the file says it’s 40 mins, but my interview is only the first 20.) We talked about how my interest in comics grew over the years and eventually turned into The Dreamer. Bill asked great questions and really knows how to steer a conversation, so I think even though some of the questions you’ve probably have heard me answer before, over all the whole thing is remarkably fresh. Give it a listen, I think you’ll enjoy!
Secondly Bob Shreck (formerly of DC Comics) announced his move over to IDW this week. In an interview about his new position he was asked this question:
NEWSARAMA: What’s your favorite current IDW book, as a fan? “All of them” is not a real answer. Yes, we are putting you on the spot.
SCHRECK: Lora Innes’ The Dreamer. Wonderful work.
woot! I met Bob when I was still in college at Wizard World Chicago, and he scared the crap out of me. But eventually he handed my portfolio back to me and before I could run away he told me that I was good enough to make it in the industry, I just had to be patient and wait for the door to open. I doubt he remembers me but that encounter (probably 8 or 9 years ago!) was the encouragement I needed and I’ve actually held onto it throughout the years when I thought I’d never break in. *sniffle* His prophecy came true. :) I hope he has a great time as a part of the IDW Team!
That’s it. VOTE this week to see some of my concept sketches for the Issue #8 cover!
