Conventions

I’ll be at two shows over the next two weeks, and I hadn’t officially posted either yet so I thought I’d do so. This weekend, October 3rd & 4th I’ll be a guest at Mid Ohio Con, right here in Columbus, Ohio! I’ll be taking commissions at the show, and I’ll have copies of the Graphic Novel available. I’ll also be on two panels on Sunday, Webcomics at 12:00 on Sunday, and Indie Comics & Small Press at 3:oo also on Sunday. Come on out for one of the panels, or swing by my booth to say hello!

Next weekend I’ll be at Baltimore Con, October 10th & 11th, and somehow Alan Evans (who helps out on The Dreamer colors) got a table right next to me! I did a guest story on his webcomic Rival Angels last month, if you’ll recall, so it’ll be a fun weekend I’m sure! The Harvey Awards are held at the Baltimore Comic Con, so we’re excited (and nervous) about that.

I’ll be taking commissions at that show as well, though I won’t be taking any online like I have in the past. If you were waiting for commissions to open, I apologize! Look for another signup list in the Spring when the new Convention season starts. I’m trying to keep up with Dreamer Pages so that I don’t have to miss any more updates.

New Pages- 9 & 10!

You all can stop holding your breath. Today we find out what Nathan was up to. New Pages 9 & 10! Enjoy!

sorry

Looks like maybe Alan got the wrong idea. Or he’s just surprised to see Nathan there. Or to find Bea awake. Or to find them so chummy with each other. Guess we’ll have to wait to find out. In any event, what Alan doesn’t realize is that Bea deserves to have Nathan walk in on her while she’s only half dressed and sleeping.

History tidbit about the real Captain Hale: Elisha Bostwick, a Captain who served with Nathan wrote this about him after his death, “[Hale] was undoubtedly Pious; for it was remarked that when any of the soldiers of his company were sick he always visited them & usually prayed for & with them in their sickness.” I figured… after everything Bea’s been through, and has told him, he’d probably offer up a few prayers for her. If for no other reason then to alleviate his guilty conscience. (Or the fact that she believes she’s a time traveller from the future!)

Since Tuesday was a significant date in the life of Nathan Hale, I created a commemorative wallpaper for him! Details are in the previous blog entry, or on the Store Page. For any sized donation, all this Nathan Hale loveliness can be yours:

I had too much going on with the wedding last week to get ahead on my work, so I don’t have any new material for the voting incentive this week. But please, feel free to still VOTE just because you love the comic! :) See you next Friday!

September 22nd Commemorative Wallpaper

Some of you have been asking for individual character wallpapers, well, with the wedding finally over and my life (hopefully!) calming down, I took some time yesterday to do a brand new, limited time only, Nathan Hale wallpaper for you all!

nathan1

When I was finishing this up last night, Mike walked in, took one look and said, “Oh, the Nathan girls are going to love that!” I had fun working on this one… It’s been awhile since I’ve drawn my characters for fun, and not just in the pages of the story. I put this on my own computer last night, and I have to admit, it’s lovely.

The awesome thing about this Nathan Wallpaper is that you get to name your price! Just head over to The Dreamer Store page, and leave us any sized donation, and he’s yours to keep- in three different screen sizes! (Instructions on downloading are on the Store Page, read carefully before you buy, so you don’t miss the link!)

The Dreamer doesn’t bring Mike & I a profit. We do it because I love and, well, because you love it. Not even the print comic books have brought us any income. So your donations here on the site are the only dollars helping me pay for things like the paper and pencils, computer repairs, conventions fees, PR & marketing, and other maintenance things that come with running your own business. So if you enjoy The Dreamer, and love Nathan Hale, consider making a donation and helping us out. Thanks!

New Pages- 7 & 8!

I’m putting the new Pages 7 & 8 up early this week. My sister is getting married on Friday, and the rehearsal dinner on Thursday is at my house! So to save me stress, you all get early pages. You deserve them anyway, after the past month of irregular updates. Enjoy!

It’s been awhile since we’ve seen this strumpet, but think back to Issue #1… Mrs. Loring finally makes her return to the story! I’m sure Alan will be glad to see her safe and sound.

General William Howe fought with his two brothers in the French & Indian War, and actually held the Americans in high esteem. He was a member of the Whig party in Parliament and fought for peace with America there before ultimately accepting the commission to come to Boston in a military capacity. After General Gage was recalled to England, Howe became the new Commander-in-Chief. Historians have disagreed over why he failed to pursue the Americans at several key moments in the war: was he lazy? spending too much time with Mrs. Loring? afraid of reliving the horrors of Bunker Hill? looking for an opportunity to end the fight without bloodshed? Do your own research and you decide. He’s an interesting character to say the least! The Howe brothers (Admiral Richard and General William) made one last attempt for peaceful negotiations in September of 1776 after the Battle of Long Island. It is the event they’re discussing in today’s pages. Admiral Howe arrived in New York with the British Navy just after the Declaration of Independence was signed. He had lingered in England, refusing to sail until he was empowered with the ability to negotiate peace. He got his papers, but the Americans had already made up their mind.

Oh, you all were wondering about Nathan…? Well, come back next Friday!

Or VOTE to preview next Friday’s update!
