New Pages 1 & 2!

New Pages 1 & 2! They bring with them two new faces-one new face on screen and one off. Off-screen, the lovely Julie Wright debuts her work this week as the new, official Dreamer colorist, and don’t the pages look great?! I squealed when I downloaded Page 2 from her.

The other new face this week is none other than…

Hercules Mulligan! At long last. Bea has been talking about him since Issue #1, and goes into more detail in Issue #3, but he’s remained off-camera until now. As a new member of the cast, I hope you enjoy him! My DeviantART followers and members of the fan flow got to meet him while The Dreamer was on hiatus. Check out his original character design here.

Mike added a button with the RSS Feed right here on the front page of the site. Some of you were having problems finding it, so just click on the icon and subscribe and you’ll never miss an update again.

In other news, we won the SPACE prize! I’m really excited about it. Read about it in the last entry.

Also posted there was the news that the Comic Creator’s Alliance came to a close and we were able to raise $10,000! Thanks to all of you who participated and donated!!

VOTE for The Dreamer over at Top Web Comics this week to preview next week’s update! If you’re new, just click on the “VOTE TWC” button in the side bar that has Bea’s face on it. It’s a comics ranking system, and if you vote for me, you get free stuff and I get free advertising. It’s totally win/win. My numbers have plunged since I haven’t updated in awhile. But The Dreamer is back on track, so VOTE for us this week!! Remember, you can vote every single day. See you next Friday!

SPACE Prize!

So… last week I was coming up with a new funny strip that I could post after we (inevitably) lost the Cybils Category we’re nominated for. (So optimistic, I know.) The punch line was going to be a new tagline for the comic: “The Dreamer: Always a Bridesmaid, Never a Bride.” And then I got an email from Bob Corby… telling me that we had won the SPACE award! Ruins my joke, totally, but I have to admit, winning feels better. :)

The Dreamer never actually wins anything! Until now! How cool is that!? Do you remember when I went to SPACE last year? It’s the Small Press and Alternative Comics Expo here in Columbus, Ohio. I guess being with IDW might not qualify us as “small press,” but The Dreamer is definitely an “alternative comic,” that’s for sure! It was a really fun show, a lot different than the bigger shows I go to, but it was so encouraging to see all the guys making comics just because they love to. And they were spotlighted at SPACE, not shoved off into a dark corner of the show called “artist alley.” If you’re a webcomic or a small press guy, you should try to make it- April 24th & 25th. I’ll be there! Book your table soon– I talked to Bob Corby last week and he suspects that the show will sell out again this year.

In other news, I keep forgetting to mention this, AOL’s ParentDish covered The Dreamer! Tom Henderson, one of their journalists, called me up for an interview a few months ago, and in all honesty, it was the most interesting interview I’d ever done. We talked a lot about modern politics verses 18th century politics, and how every group under the sun will claim that the Founders would have agreed with their party/group today by pulling one or two quotes out of context, and what I thought about all of that. Most of that sort of thing didn’t make it into the article, but my friend Asha was at my house while I did the interview, and when I got off the phone, I said, “that was the best conversation I’ve had in as long as I can remember!” I think in part because Tom is an intelligent guy, but also because most of the time when people “interview” me, it’s just a set of questions for me to fill out via email, not a conversation that can develop organically. Anyway, I’m rambling, but it was a lot of fun.

Finally, the Comic Creators Alliance’s final total was over $10,000! Thanks everyone!!

The Dreamer is BACK!

Issue #9 starts today! No more waiting! We have a mysterious handsome looking fop on the cover for you. Come back next week when the issue kicks off with pages 1 & 2. I had so much fun doing this cover… I’ve been planning it for quite awhile.

Julie has been working on coloring the interior pages, and I have to tell you that she’s doing a great job! I can’t wait to show you. I think you guys are really going to love her.

Well, today marks the close of an era. We first started posting The Dreamer on Drunk Duck, several years ago, and today will be my last update on that site. If you want to read about my reasons, I wrote about it in the Drunk Duck blog. If you’re a Drunk Duck reader and have found your way over here to the main site for the first time, I’d like to extend a hearty welcome to you! We hope you feel at home here in no time!

Finally, the Comic Creator’s Alliance is coming to a close. The Donations Drive ends this Sunday, the 24th. That will also be the last day to buy the special Dreamer Girls wallpaper–100% of that money goes straight to the CCA. Thanks to all of the donors so far, I’m proud to say that we’ve raised over $9,000!

Appearance this Week

Thursday night, I’ll be a speaker at Wild Goose Creative, here in Columbus, Ohio.

In their own words, “Wild Goose Creative is about building a vibrant community of people who care about art and who want to change the world.” They invited me to be one of four guests as they discuss comic books at this week’s meeting. All are welcome! $5 to enter, it starts at 8 PM and I’ll be there after for Q & A after and selling some Dreamer Goodness. If you’re local, come on out! I’ll be talking about how a web-community enhances the reading experience of comics.

Also, back in October at Mid-Ohio Con, I was asked to do a sketch to be auctioned off for the Heroes Initiative. Unprepared, I borrowed a bunch of markers from Eric Adams, and had a half hour to do a drawing. I picked Black Canary, and it’s up for auction now! Check it out or place a bid here.

See you Friday when The Dreamer returns!
