Goodreads.com

Someone sent me an invitation to join GoodReads.com.  It’s a site where you can keep track of the books you’ve read, rate them, review them, and recommend them to friends.  I signed up, and it’s actually a pretty neat website.  Anyway, a lot of you have asked me for a list of books I’d recommend or books I’ve read on the American Revolution.  I took an hour or two this morning to set this up, but I know that I’m forgetting a lot of them.  And some are old, not in print anymore.

But I’ll continue to add books to the list as I remember them, and as I read new ones.  You can check out my profile here, and my history book list here.  And if you’re already a member add me as a friend!

Anyway, I hope that helps some of you out, and if you see a book you know I missed, let me know.  Oh, and I… added a few graphic novels to the comic book list, but it’s pathetically incomplete as of now.  The problem is that I read more individual issues of comic books than graphic novels, but the ones listed were a few I could remember off the top of my head.

Hey sweet! I’m definitely going to have to check this out.

I read McCullough’s “1776″ on your recommendation, and it was fabulous! I’ll have to check out some of the other titles you have listed.

Out of curiosity, have you read any of Naomi Novik’s Temeraire series? I simply love them, and think that they’re some of the best historical fiction/fantasy books being written today. (Imagine Jane Austen writing about dragons.) I thought you might like them, too.

    Just sayin’. =)

Long time fan, first time commenter, but I simply love your work! (Honestly though, a webcomic featuring Nathan Hale? – I am there.) Going to add you to Goodreads because my addiction to that site is a bit unhealthy, but I love looking at what people are reading and getting new recommendations. ;) (And I second the Temeraire series mentioned above so much.)

    Hi,

I really The Dreamer, as an avid fan of the Amer Rev (and someone who is studying it now for something of a living). I wanted to toss out another book you might look into for a short, readable overview of the war aspect. “A Respectable Army: The Military Origins of the Republic, 1763-1789″ by James Martin and Martin Lender.

    Cheers,

    David
