New #24: Trust Me

New Page #24!

ben wants bea to tell him what is going on

I want to spotlight three upcoming events! This weekend I’ll be at Wizard World Ohio, always my favorite show of the year, seeing as how all my friends come into my hometown. This year my little house will be filled to the brim. Come out and see me!

Next week I was asked to be a panelist at my Alma Mater, the Columbus College of Art and Design for their MIX Symposium on Comics. There is a fantastic lineup. I’ll be there on Friday, on the Extraordinary Epics panel giving a behind the scenes look at the making of the exhibit for the Nathan Hale School House, and I’ll also be on the Independent Comics panel.

And West Coasters, I have the distinct pleasure of being invited to the Academy of Arts University in San Francisco for their Comic Symposium “Digital Tools for Comic Creators.” This event is open to all!

Full details on all these events and more below!

  1. David says:

It’s a no-win situation. Bea risks losing Ben if she keeps being evasive about her reason for leaving, and I suspect he won’t be as receptive as Yvette was if she tells the truth. He’d probably storm off before she got halfway through her story, considering how angry he is right now.

    • Niki says:

I’d say all her problems then, are solved. No more agonizing over which guy to pick…

      • David says:

ALL her problems are solved? Well now, There’s still the little matter of rescuing Nathan. But, yes, this could finally put an end to “the love triangle” and at least Bea will be rid of this particular burden.

Oh, who are we kidding? Like it’s gonna be THAT easy!

  2. So it looks like is over between Ben and Bea.

    In IV:
Bea: I need to save Nathan, I’m sorry Ben but the Tea Cozies are getting cold.

  3. Brent says:

    Ohhhh…..dramatic scenes are dramatic.

So I guess this means the question about which boyfriend to be with is now a moot point. Still, I do hope he sticks around some….

    INCENTIVE CAPTION!!!!

    Bea: “Ben, wait, I’m…..”
Bea’s mind: sorry in love with you nervous worried scared traveling through time in my dreams
    Bea: “….pregnant!”
    Bea’s mind: …..you idiot.

  4. Jen says:

I had a feeling this would happen.

  5. Alone says:

I think he’s taking being stood up for lunch a little too far. XD Suck it up, Ben! The girl’s on a mission.

btw, LURVE panel 1. Thier expressions are fantastic.

  6. Susan says:

Bea needs a Sassy Gay friend right now! (Second city skit)

SGF: “what? What! What are you doing?”
    Bea: “I can’t tell Ben, he’ll think I’m crazy!”
SGF: “I think we’re past that sweetie. Don’t let tht hunk of real man get away. Just make up a cunning lie.”
Bea: “I’d feel bad. And I don’t have time! I have to save Nathan!”
SGF: “that girl has so many problems, Ophelia was easier to work with!”

And this is what I do when I don’t feel like doing work!

  7. Phyllis Wheatley says:

YAY! Ben’s done! I’ve wanted her to get rid of him for a long time. And not because he’s black, but because she could to so much better…like Alan.

  8. Hm, she has to risk losing Ben if she tries to keep Alan….but she may not have Alan forever. If she goes for Alan she may lose them both. But whatever happens, she can’t keep Alan AND Ben.

    • David says:

      Decisions, decisions…

      • David says:

You’ve raised a good point, though. If Bea breaks up with Ben and the Dreaming stops afterward she will have effectively lost both him AND Alan. Since they both live in the same “world” Bea would still have a chance at getting Ben back. Unfortunately, Yvette may have already taken up with Ben by then, as she said she would if he and Bea were to break up. This could certainly cause a rift between these two longtime BFF’s. Breaking up with Alan is a alternative, but so long as the Dreaming continues Bea would still probably find herself interacting with him and that could be, well, awkward.
I’m sure Bea has considered the above possibilities. Even though she knows it’s wrong to string both those guys along she’s probably holding off on making a final decision out of simple fear and uncertainty of what the consequences of that decision could be. In Bea’s defence, we should all remember this is not your average, run-of-the-mill love triangle. Making a choice here is going to more complicated than it would be in a more “ordinary” teen drama, with potentially FATAL results for at least one of the participants since there IS a war going on in part of this story.

  9. Julie says:

Well done Ben! *applauds* And I’m not saying that because I’m Team Alan (which I am), but because Bea hasn’t been giving him as much attention as she should in a while (given their relationship)…and no one (at least no one decent) deserves to be treated that way.

I kind of expect that Ben may change Bea’s ringtone on his cell to Katie Perry’s “Hot ‘N Cold” at this point…it’s really the best description of how her behavior probably comes across from his perspective.

  10. Trevor says:

Ben , this isn’t how you handle the ladies. I just have to keep telling myself you’re in high school and will understand in a few years. When you get to college, everything changes.

    Well, not really….

  11. Ink says:

Aw man. I really like Ben (no that has nothing to do with the fact that he looks like my own boyfriend what are you talking about shut up), but he has put up with a lot of crap from Bea. She really needs to explain some things to him.

  12. Caera says:

Wow, while I won’t say Bea isn’t being very good to Ben, I must say he really isn’t the most patient person, is he? Oh well, he’s a teenage guy. I’d not expect more at this point.

  13. Rose says:

I say good for Ben! I mean, he’s a great guy, and uncomfortable as it is, he deserves someone who will appreciate him instead of always looking over her shoulder at someone else. Whether or not Alan exists, nobody wants to be the back up choice.

  14. Well Bea, you’ve found yourself in quite a pickle.

  15. Half Moon says:

OMG!!! Finally!!!!!!! Sorry Team Ben, I just ship Bea/Alan….but, enuf teen drama, WHAT’S GOING ON WITH NATHAN!?!?!?!?!?

  16. David says:

Yeah, we get it. Bea and Ben are through (for now). Now get back to Nathan! If I wanted teen drama I’d be watching “90210″ or “Degrassi” now instead!

  17. Bethany says:

Someone’s probably already pointed this out, BUT, looking back at this issue’s cover, I suddenly realize that the hand Bea’s reaching for is not Alan’s, but Nathan’s. *sigh*

    • David says:

Note that Nathan is currently not wearing a coat with WHITE cuffs. Then again it’s possible that Lora is just being annoyingly “symbolic” with the cover illustration again. Wouldn’t be the first time. You know how much she enjoys toying with us!

      • Brent says:

Yeah….remember Bea crying under the apple tree on issue 14? That was some good symbolism there, I must say (and my favorite cover, too).
