New Page #12!

Alan is miffed at his encounter with the Whaleys.

(I've had this picture as the wallpaper on my phone for several weeks!)

Fun Fact: Sam Adams’s words on this page are taken from the actual speech he gave that day, under the Liberty Tree!

  1. Caera says:

“I’ll be back” indeed! Well he’s not dead then. lol

    The VI: DROOOLLLLL

    Wow you updated early.

  2. AnaRomae says:

Hey! No one gets to call Alan and Joseph rabble! *huff*

Mean lady. I don’t care if you are Bea’s mom.

    *sticks out tongue*

  3. Brent says:

Wow, I love that first piece…..well done, whoever. Anyway — to the comic!

Well I guess this answers the question of why mom had that look on her face. Stupid rabble, how dare they exercise their constitutional right to peacefully assemble….

Except for that blonde fellow in the crowd. Is baby Beatrice staring at the whole scene, or just him? Hmmmmm……

    INCENTIVE CAPTION!!!!

Samuel: “Good god, Alan, what are you doing?”
Alan: “Oh, hey Sam, do you like it? I call it…….a bong!”
Samuel: “Yeah, I call it “you’re dead when Ma finds out.”

  4. deb says:

“Sor-REE!” is what I heard! Hee!

I love the transition panels at the end. Assuming this is him flashing back on his life, he can still hear Bea, which is good. Alan’s not dead!!

  5. I have my fingers cross that Alan is not dead

  6. Angie says:

Hey, her mom is different… interesting

  7. Rachel says:

Can’t get much deader than dead…

  8. Half Moon says:

I love how you show how Bea has he exact same expression now that she had when she was a little girl! It’s so cute! I vote for a “Baby Bea” plushy in the store ;D

    • Lora says:

Ha ha!! Yes that would be cute!!

      • Half Moon says:

lol and then a whole line of “Dreamer’s Kids” plushies O:D

        • Lora says:

Caera and Cody are our resident plushy makers. Let’s get them on it!!

          • Half Moon says:

lol and if they ever have a pattern I’ll be glad to help…I’m sure they’ll be WAY cuter than the plushy at the Hale Homestead!

          • David says:

That “Dreamer’s Kids” plushies idea just got me to thinking of an alternative to that “Dreamer High school” alternate reality we discussed on the last blog page. Retain the whole time-travel and cloning concept but have it take place in ELEMENTARY school. All the teenage and 20-something characters except for Nathan would be brought together as 10-year olds. Nathan would still be the hot, 21-year old teacher that all the girls have a crush on, only now the crushes would be merely “cute” and not some “Lifetime Network”-type nightmare for Nathan. That should satisfy everybody who still has that “Nathan as hot teacher” fixation and also keep Nathan out of trouble!

          • Lora says:

You’re really worried about Nathan’s reputation, aren’t you David? It’s no use.

All the girls in his girls-only morning classes made a point to say “tell Mr. Hale we say hiiiiii!” when their brothers, etc, wrote to him in the Army. They were teenagers, and Nathan was known to be flirty with at least one of them. But probably more.

          • AnaRomae says:

About those girls in his morning class. xD. I was mentioning that a friend of mine, and said: “I wouldn’t be able to get up before five AM to make it to that early of a class…not for anyone…”

We both paused for a second, walking from my car to the school, and then in unison said, very loudly, “YEAH I WOULD.”
I’d definitely wake up at four AM to see Nathan every morning. xD

          • Half Moon says:

@David: I want the hot new grad from Yale Nathan! That way hes a perfect age for me o>:3
@Lora: oh, you know that /one girl/ was me or Caera after we stole the TARDIS!
@AnaRomae: …I’d wake up at 12am if I had to.

          • AnaRomae says:

@Half Moon: They did go to bed at like, 6 or 7 (when the sun wen’t down.) It wouldn’t really be that bad to get up so early. Even at midnight, you’d still have at least five hours of sleep under your belt. The healthy amount is about six or seven, isn’t it? I perhaps value my sleep more than other girls…xD. Nathan would have to wait. I’d bring him lunch.

          • AnaRomae says:

Me: Ohhh….just bringing my little brother some food…*ruffles random kid’s hair* Want some *whatever Puritans eat*

          • Half Moon says:

I could help with that too….considering with my family my sis would be the town baker, my mom and dad would own the apothicary and I’d be the local weaver/bard

          • AnaRomae says:

Hahaha. We could both go and pester, ah, join him for lunch! It’d be lovely!

On a different note, I finally got an I Heart Nathan tee, and it shipped today! *dances*

          • Half Moon says:

Jelous! I have to wait til I get all my bowling stuff up to date b4 I can get my tee!

          • David says:

@Lora: Ah!, well, I’m not exactly “worried” about Nathan’s reputation but I am concerned for his common sense. What was just harmless flirtation in the 18th century would be taken a lot more seriously in the 21st and Nathan may not be completely aware of that fact. But never mind the teenage girls. What if the mother of one of his students were to become smitten with his charm and good looks? We’d have a very odd remake of “The Graduate” goin’ on!

  9. Heidi says:

I have been re-falling-in-love with Alan with every new page of these flashbacks. So you’d better not die on me now, Alan!

  10. Jen says:

I would love to see a compilation illustration with Alan as he grows up. Just so we can see the cuteness change to hotness. Because it’d be fun.

In other news, I still hold out hope that Bea had enough 21st century sense to check Alan’s pulse instead of just futilely shaking him and shouting. She seems to have gotten a bit more under control in that last panel. I’d be freaking out a whole lot and still screaming for someone to come help if the man I loved was lying dead on the ground in his tent, rather than leaving him to get help.

    • Lora says:

Uh yeah. I think its fair to assume Al is showing some albeit weak signs of life or we’d have a different Bea right now. She’s not THAT dense!

  11. Scott Wiser says:

Lora, I love that you’ve gone back and shown his past and how they met. It adds so much more depth and the moments you’ve selected seem perfect. I’ve missed paperwings this month, so I’m glad The Dreamer has kept on moving. Later.

    • Lora says:

Ha ha, thanks Scott! Paper Wings ate up so much of my time this year it’s been nice to have a few weeks to just focus in on The Dreamer again. Don’t worry Paper Wings will be back! Chris and I are just figuring a few things out right now.

And so glad you’re enjoying the flashbacks! It was so hard to pick what to include. I mean with everything going on in Boston…! The temptation was to pick my favorite historical moments. But I had to pick the moments that told Alan’s story in a way that was relevant to him and Bea, since she is our protagonist.

Hey talking about that would make a great PW post! ;)

    • Katherine says:

      I always love backstory/flashback scenes :D

  12. Rae says:

omg such a great update! Poor Alan experiencing the wrath of Bea’s mom lol :) Well maybe not quite. I also can understand why that picture of Alan has been the wallpaper on your phone it’s great.

  13. trevor says:

    Go Bea, go!

Also, some great artwork submissions you shared here. Some nice talented artists in your fan base.

  14. Altair says:

Go, Bea, fetch Thoros of Myr!

  15. Kelly says:

Oh my holy cow. The Dreamer is like my fantasy life. I mean words can’t even express… I wish guys 10 years older would fall in love with me and I could wear fancy dresses and be super brave and all of that.
    Your comic is amazing.

  16. Bethany says:

*breathes a sigh of relief* Okay, good…so he’s NOT dead! …Right?
Bea’s mom is kind of a biyyaaaa, but I love her outfit. <3

  17. Steve says:

Oh, Lora; you’re killing me. To see Baby Bea looking that way, and present-day 18th Century Beatrice looking that same way in the next frame!!! Oh, My!

Having said: (and thank you, btw, for saying that) Alan’s still alive, at least. I’ve lost track of the number of times you’ve made my day, but you just made my day.

  18. Erin says:

I started reading this comic about a week ago, and now these suspenseful next few pages! You have drawn me in good and I am so looking forward to all new pages.
