New Page #18!

New Page #18! Bea is reeling from the previous night.

There are only two pages left in this issue. Bea finds herself at a distance from her 18th Century problems… for now.

Ahhh the wonderful days of theatre class readings. I missed my calling to be a voice actor; on more than one occasion I wound up reading multiple parts at a time for people who weren’t there (my teacher never would cast me in anything after I turned down a role due to illness. *rolls eyes*).

But sad day! We’re back in the present, so no Nathan-ness!!! That little tiny glimpse of him last week just wasn’t enough…lol *rolls eyes at self*

The VI – Lol Their faces are hilarious. They gotta make Ben Romeo! lol

  2. Siobhan says:

Yay!!! A new page eighteen minutes early!!!

And were back in the 21st century!

Ohmygosh, I am so worried about Alan. I know he’s dying but it’s just too soon! Not with Nathan going on his spy mission and *ahem* other things…and if impelling bad, Bea must me almost catatonic with worry!! No wonder she looked so listless in her rehearsal.

Hugs to Bea. We all know you’re hurting, sweetie.
MAJOR hugs to Alan. PLEASE LET IT BE A MIRACLE AND DON’T DIE!!!
Super hugs to Nathan and Freddie nad Knowlton because I miss y’all.
And no hugs for Hamilton. Cuz he’s kind of a jerk to Bea.

  3. Etoile says:

I’m kicking myself for not recognizing Romeo and Juliet until the second panel. I’m sorry, Shakespeare, I still love you!

I love this page, though (even if it’s modern-day). The dialogue fits in perfectly with the things that happened in the 18th century, and it looks like Bea’s reading it perfectly, too. I can’t wait for more!

  4. Half Moon says:

    OMG!!!!!! WE’RE IN SHAKESPEARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But why’d we have to leave Nathen already??? :’( Don’t leave me Nathan!!!!!!! lol, I’m a total dork!

  5. Annamarie says:

Haha, I love the little chuckle this page brings at the end. Just a slight lightheartedness to feel that pull back into the real world. One thing I love about The Dreamer is how -real- the present feels, and that little touch is something that helps that. :) That would SO happen in real life, and I think it also shows just how removed Bea is from her peers. But it also serves as that nice little laugh I feel like I need right now, after all this heavy emotion.

  6. Esile says:

Love the transition back to the 21st century. As much as I adore the 18th century and the people in it, I’ve found myself wondering more about 21st-century Bea the last few weeks!

  7. Brent says:

Wow, we’re back in the 21st century. I’m actually a little bummed, considering how things were going back in the 1700s…

Ah, play readings. Love how Bea is totally apart from the whole thing. Can’t wait to hear Ben’s theories why….

    INCENTIVE CAPTION!!!!

Ben: Hey Bea! How many tea cosys do you think I can fit in my mouth?
Bea: Okay, this better be for the party scene in act II….

  8. Caera says:

I imagine Ben could probably fit a lot of tea cozies in his mouth. But who do you think would get more sick-Ben or Alan? lol

  9. Tigershark06 says:

I have to say I was rather confused by such an abrupt shift in scenery! We didn’t even see Bea go to sleep. I guess I should have seen it coming, but it just went right over my head.

Needless to say, some “reality” about Alan’s situation is starting to sink in!

  10. Diana says:

I sense that this rehearsal period is going to be very long for Bea, what with adjews pouring from Romeo’s mouth.
Although I didn’t say so last week, I really, really loved last week’s spread. It was a wonderful bit of verbal and visual storytelling.

  11. Brent says:

You kidding? Ben’s a 21st century footballer. Who knows what he’s done to his stomach? Compared to that, an 18th century apple farmer hasn’t got a chance. (For everything else, though…. ;) )

  12. Caera says:

@Brent Your point is valid but I’m concerned if we say such things the Alan team might slaughter us, even though we all love Alan too…:P

  13. Kara says:

I’m completely torn…I love Shakespeare and I love seeing Bea and Yvette interact…but I want 18th century back again!!! ACK!!

  14. Allison says:

So is this simply Bea hurting, or does it double as foreshadowing?

I’m prepared for sadness. Please, no.

  15. Julie says:

Odd…I didn’t get “listless” or “distracted” from Bea’s reading. I actually got “putting emotion in there from an outside source” instead.

  16. Lora says:

@Tigershark: Yes, people are finally starting to realize that Alan is more than just a little sick. re: abrupt shift. I know we usually see Bea falling asleep or waking up, but I figure you guys are a sophisticated enough readership that I don’t need to hold your hand every time anymore. I thought this was a much more powerful transition, story-wise…

    @Diana: thank you! <3

@Kara: The 18th Century will always be back… for better or worse!

@Julie: Yup, right on the money.

  17. Rae says:

haha poor guy I thought he was sneezing at first trying to be funny (even though the facial expressions didn’t match ^_^) .

Also, I can’t help but feel for Bea she’s obviously putting a lot of effort into her performance, but she doesn’t have much to work with as far as partners go.

Though I really love Bea in the 18th century, I am actually excited to be back in the 21st century for a little bit. Can’t wait to see what kind of drama unfolds here (on a side note Ben seems happy or maybe excited about something in next week’s preview. So, that’s perhaps a good sign? Probably not because Bea looks worried, or maybe reserved…hard to say).

  18. Noriko-chan says:

Oh, finally something happens in the present… this performance is pretty much the only thing I care for.

  19. Oh man. How in the heck does Bea hold herself together?! If that was me, I’d probably be in a psych ward by now! (Not because I’m crazy because I’m having vivid 18th century dreams! Rather, the emotions caused by the dreams would make me crazy! If that makes sense.)

I really hope we don’t end up with “Teams” like Twilight….because Team Alan would kick Team Ben’s butt! LOL! That is, if Alan gets better, and strong enough to. All this tension!

Awesome job on story, dialog, and graphics, Lora. As usual, of course!

  20. @Caera: HA! I hadn’t read the previous comments! Looks like there already IS a “Team Alan” and “Team Ben”. LOL!

  21. trevor says:

Oh man, I remember having to do Romeo and Juliet in English class. Somehow I got cast as Romeo one time, and Carly, the hottest girl in class, got cast as Juliet. And when it came to the kissing scene, the whole class was watching to see if we’d actually do it.

    She chickened out.

My point is, school plays are tough.

  22. Lora says:

Kristee… there’s not just teams, there are badges too… These came up way back in issue #5 after the Nathan/Alan fist fight:

  23. Je says:

I love the Team Knowlton badge. The only thing that would make it funnier is if it said “There is no spoon”.

In the last panel, Ben actually looks kind of worried to me, like he’s picking up that Bea’s sad and worried about something, that it’s not necessarily just her being an awesome actor.

  24. Trustache says:

I love the last panel because I can relate to it so much. My high school only offers French and Spanish, since it’s such a small school, and that’s a common line amongst the student body haha.

  25. Caera says:

@Trevor I never had to act out scenes but had a funny issue of getting cast as the blind character in English class readings. I didn’t even wear glasses back then. lol

  26. Silvre says:

The prayer that Nathan said…was that a quote from him, or did you write that? It was beautiful.

  27. Lora says:

@silvre: It was taken (mostly) from a 1771 prayer book. You can find the details in my last blog post. Not an actual Nathan Hale prayer, though he was known for praying with all of the sick men in his company.

  28. @Lora: LOVE the badges! Go TEAM NATHAN!! WHOO!! This must have been before I discovered the Dreamer. I think I came in around Issue 8 or 9.

@Je: “There is no spoon!” LOL!

  29. Caera says:

    But I like my spoons!

  30. Brent says:

@Caera: BAH! Spoons…they don’t do anything a spork doesn’t, and actually do fewer things. Give me one of those KFC bad boys any day, I’ll tell you what….

  31. Caera says:

Sporks are cool but I like spoons best.

  32. catclark#1 says:

Spoons all the way haha! :D

  33. Caera says:

Huzzah! Good for cutting the hearts out of ‘dem redcoats! lol jk

  34. Brent says:

And sporks are already pointy to make the redcoat cutting easy! See? SEE?

  35. Caera says:

But it’s supposed to be painful! that’s why we use spoons!

Please tell me you’ve seen Robin Hood Prince of Thieves. lol

  36. Brent says:

Ohhhh…..yeah, it’s been a while, so I don’ really remember that part. I do remember this bit of excellence, though:

    OHHHHHH
    There was a rich man
    from Nottingham
who tried to cross a river….

    What a dope!
    He tripped on a rope!
    Now look at him shiver….

  37. Caera says:

    Beg for mercy rich man!

  38. Anna Bannana says:

Giant Spork on the K-State Campos! http://www.dvandom.com/images/sporkture.JPG.

    :)

    Love the new page!

  39. Brent says:

@Caera: Best (or one of the top five) Christian Slater role ever (others include Daniel Malloy and Riley Hale)

  40. Caera says:

I love Christian Slater. He’s so cool. lol And of course, he played a Captain Hale so he would have been cool anyway. lol

    I am so hopeless….

  41. Brent says:

lol Hey what if that Captain Hale was a long distance relative of our favorite spy? That would make an already great movie even cooler. In fact, that’s the homework for tonight, everyone — find and rent or buy a copy of “Broken Arrow” and come to class prepared to compare and contrast the two Hales.

  42. Caera says:

lol It’s on instant watch on netflix.

  43. Brent says:

Eh, netflix, schmetflix — I’ve had the DVD of it for five or six years anyway.

  44. Caera says:

LOL I’m ending my subscription at the end of the month. Can’t afford their new nonsense. Can’t afford to buy DVDs either though, so I’ll have to do my homework with what I have available, prof. ;)

  45. Brent says:

:-) lol that’s why I have a playstation….rent what i want when i want and don’t worry about any fees other than the credit card ones.

  46. Caera says:

    I’d never use a playstation. Not a gamer. :P
