It feels like an eternity since the last update. This holiday weekend went on longer than I expected. But now the update!!!

Huzzah! Such a sweet page. Opening up to Alan like that. Awww!!!

The VI: Hahaha! Pouty Alan! How many of us have seen that face on a kid before? :D

    • Lora says:

Well… we’re going out of town again this weekend so you might get the next page a little early too. After that we’re staying put for awhile!! Early is better than late, right…?

      • Caera says:

Definitely better early. Though I won’t be commenting until late because I work more or less from 8am to midnight tomorrow and Thursday. Starting my first official job, and then Starbucks’ hours are extended late through the New Year. O.o lol So if you don’t see me it’s not because I don’t love you. It’s because I’m making 4 star alarms. lol ;)

        • Lora says:

How is the new job going?! Best of luck at it! What a great Christmas present! <3

        • Tamesin says:

Bea’s crack-in-a-cup recipe should become an official Starbucks drink. Can you make a suggestion?

          • Lora says:

I’ve posted this somewhere before but I can’t remember where now. Let’s see if I can get this right:

Venti coffee with cream and sugar, two extra shots, double white mocha syrup, extra whipped cream and caramel sauce.

I used to work at Starbucks, a couple years after art school which is obligatory I hear but on one tells you that when you enroll. There was one guy who used to order something similar (they called it a “black eye”) and I used to worry about his health because he’d have one every day!

I think we should all order 4 Star Alarms at Anime Boston.

          • Caera says:

You do realize that in Starbucks Formula that would more or less be a Quadruple Americano—4 shots of espresso (2 to a Venti, normally, for the peeps who don’t work at Starbucks), followed by TEN shots of white mocha syrup (5 pumps of syrup to a Venti, normally), Whipped Cream with Caramell Drizzel?

And then Half N’ Half and sugar added on request? With all that white mocha I’d never…heck I’d cut the whipped cream and caramel…actually no. I’d NEVER drink ten pumps of White Mocha. If the quadruple espresso didn’t make my heart explode the mocha would stop up my digestive system. Either way I’d be dead…lol

And then us ordering that at Anime Boston…we’d be kicked out of the STATE for the disruption our hyperactive insanity would cause…

          • Lora says:

Ha ha yes it is GROSS! I would never drink one, I order a tall coffee with cream period. And sometimes that gets cold before I finish it!

The white mocha syrup used to make me gag unless they’ve changed it since then. It was always kind of bluish purple around the edges like it was made out of plastic!

          • Caera says:

Or wait…is it already 4 shots of espresso to an Americano…I’m still learning. lol

Either way, I’ve given you all the recipe but I don’t recommend trying it.

          • That sure sounds pretty good. I never had Starbucks and plus I live in a small town and Starbucks is an hour away where I’m from.

          • Caera says:

The white mocha sauce isn’t blue around the edges here…but ten pumps is still too much. I like sweet drinks but that’s mental. lol

@Sailormoon When you do get to a Starbucks I suggest an iced mocha. Not too sweet, not too bitter. Refreshing. :D

          • Half Moon says:

@Lora about the 4 star alarm….Yay! Yum! my sister (or whoever i get to go with me) will be looking away going “I don’t know these people!”

  2. deb says:

Oh my god! How is this so incredibly precious!!!

  3. I think I’m in love with Kid Alan more than ever. And it’s been a long weekend and Xmas is coming soon.

  4. Half Moon says:

Meep! I love his reaction in the last panel… he sounds like me ^.^

  5. nessili says:

Little Alan is adorable! I’ve seen that pouty look on my daughter numerous times. And his look of horror when she says she wanted to burn the trees :) But Aunt Mary must be an awfully special aunt if she’s willing to climb up a tree she hates, just to talk to him…

You’re coming down to my end of the world! You should stop in Fredericksburg (and all the battlefields outside Richmond–you’ll be driving right by them) …research, you know ;D

(though if you’re coming down 301 instead of I-95, you’ll be passing within 1 minute of my house)

    Enjoy Williamsburg!

    • Lora says:

Aww, no we’re coming in from the other way. I live in Ohio. We’re driving across 64 from the west. Which just so happens to take me right by Mr. Jefferson’s house. We’re stopping to do the behind the scenes tour where you get to go upstairs and see the dome!

      • nessili says:

I forgot you would be coming in that way :( I guess you and Boston are forever linked in my mind…

But way cool that you get to do the behind-the-scenes tour! I hope our weather stays nice for you :)

        • Lora says:

OH man, one day I hope to really be linked to Boston, not just in my heart! XD Actually Boston or Virginia are both on my wish-list places to move.

My secret wish is to be a tour guide at either Colonial Williamsburg or the Freedom Trail!

          • Stacy says:

Actually I used to live in Boston and now live in Virginia! :) I love it. There really are no better places for American history nerds. Enjoy Williamsburg; it’s always such a fun adventure!

  6. Sarah says:

Tiny Alan is just the cutest.

  7. Brent says:

Yay, it’s Aunt Mary! I had a feeling it was her, though a sick small part was still thinking that this would be Joseph’s death (yes, i realize we’re four years late, go away). At any rate, love her look.

Also, young Alan continues to bring the cute. Excellent.

    INCENTIVE CAPTION!!!

Alan: “Just you wait, Aunt Mary! I’m gonna grow up and take this farm and make us rich with it!”
Mary: “Well, so long as you marry a nice girl in your downtime. I hear the Whalley’s just had a daughter….”
    Alan: “PFFFH! Like that’ll happen!”

  8. Lyrit says:

Great update :) Enjoy Williamsburg – it’s wonderful during the winter season!

    • Lora says:

      So I hear. I can’t wait!

      • Niki says:

You. Stole. My. Dream! Lucky person, you… :)
And it’s not fair that everyone lives in different time zones so by the time I get on here to comment, everything’s already been said, and anything *I* write would be repetitive. ;))
I’m also getting confused when it comes to the whole huge-Warren-family thingy…a blog post on them would be nice, as you mentioned. Or…I can just go buy “A Most Agreeable Thanksgiving”… :P

        • Lora says:

Well, we forgot to change the price back so it’s still on sale! Buy it today. It really is the best introduction into the family, and Alan’s part in it. (Not to mention super-duper adorable.)

  9. Tamesin says:

Yay, Mary Warren! What an awesome woman (both in real life, and here). She didn’t just raise four boys…. she raised *those* four boys.
And it’s fun to see how you’ve drawn her. I enjoy looking at the “brothers portrait” and seeing who has the same eyes, chin, smiles, hair, etc. (there’s kind of a mix-and-match); now that I see Mary, I can tell who got which features from her.

  10. head_in_the_clouds says:

N’awwwww little Alan is so cute, I hope we have pages and pages of him :D (then I can forget that we still don’t know if he’s dead or not) T_T

  11. Bethany says:

Sweet mercy, young Alan is just so adorable, I can’t even stand it! *huugggs*

  12. Kristee says:

Aww! Really cute page! Aunt Mary reminds me of Meryl Streep…like, REALLY reminds me of Meryl Streep! LOL!

    • David says:

Maybe Meryl Streep could play Aunt Mary in the movie. The big question now is who could play little Alan. Somebody “cute” and “adorable”, of course! Although with all that’s going on we may have to extend the story into a two-parter, or even a trilogy!

      • Lora says:

I think this chapter would get cut from the movie version. Guess people will just have to read the books!

        • David says:

That’s true. Movie Audiences often get restless with extended flashback scenes unless there’s some kind of “action” in it. That’s just the way it is. Anyway, I still think ONE movie probably wouldn’t be enough to contain all this no matter how much excess stuff is deleted. I’ve actually had this idea of it being made into an animated tv series, but it would most likely have to be something like Japanese anime because they’re about the only ones I can think of who might do it. You can pretty much forget about it being produced in THIS country, where shows like “Beavis and Butthead” are considered among the tops in tv animation series!

          • Lora says:

Different things work in different genres. You’re right–anime is a much more linear translation of comics than TV or Movies especially. But I for one would love to see the Dreamer as a movie–even though it would mean changes to the story. A big epic movie would do all the things I can’t do in this format.

  13. Hannah says:

I love this page so much. Alan is perhaps the cutest little kid I’ve ever seen. His reaction to Aunt Mary burning the trees in the last panel is hilarious! And the VI, looks like someone’s got their grumpy face on. Looks a little like my cousin, actually, But all kids have the same adorable pouty face, I suppose.

Also, is it just me or are the colours in the last two pages especially gorgeous? I think it’s all the green in the trees, but whatever it is, I love it!

Can’t wait for the next update!

    • Lora says:

I love how Julie (my colorist) has the apples sparkling in the sunlight. LOL! Those magical Warren Russet apples! <3

And yes, Alan and his trees. Trees are for going up, not cutting down!

      • Hannah says:

The Warren Russet apples are just so magical, they sparkle! I really want to try one now XD

        • Caera says:

I totally was talking apples to a lady on the plane from Syracuse to Atlanta* on the first leg of my trip back to Texas. She used to be from New York but now she lives in California, so we were talking different types of apples and I asked her if she knew the Warren Russet and she said “Oh those are good apples! I’m surprised you know them since you’ve never lived up this way!” My sister was like “O.o…*puke*” (She was airsick, not grimacing at the thought of apples.

*I do have to say, I’ve been in the Atlanta airport several times and people there are just so damn friendly I wish I could ALWAYS travel through there.

          • Hannah says:

I’ve never been to the Atlanta airport, but my cousins live just outside the city, and every time I visit them everyone is just so lovely!

Now I’m sad that the only kind of apples I can name from memory are Granny Smith and Fuji. I feel like I should go research types of apples now in order to better understand the Warren family.

          • Caera says:

Apples are actually pretty fun to research. :D

  14. David says:

I’ve also been there. That place is AWESOME!
