  1. Oh Thomas Knowlton we will miss you forever and ever and poor Fed

    R.I.P.

    THOMAS KNOWLTON

    NOVEMBER 22, 1740 TO SEPTEMBER 16, 1776

YOU ARE THE GREATEST SOLDIER WHO EVER LIVED, GOD WE ALL WILL YOU FOREVER

  2. Brent says:

    Nooooo……. *makes various whining noises*

    Beautiful incentive, though.

  3. Annie says:

“Out of his eyes I saw the last light glide.
Here among the light of the lording sky
An old man is with me where I go

Walking in the meadows of his son’s eye
On whom a world of ills came down like snow.
He cried as he died, fearing at last the spheres’

Last sound, the world going out without a breath:
Too proud to cry, too frail to check the tears,
And caught between two nights, blindness and death.

O deepest wound of all that he should die
On that darkest day. oh, he could hide
The tears out of his eyes, too proud to cry.

Until I die he will not leave my side.”

  4. Lisa Jonte says:

Well, damn. A song for Colonel Knowlton. http://youtu.be/vcj4SzzWYUo

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have something in my eye.

  5. deb says:

    *SOB* :’(

Make it stop! Make it stop! No-oooooo! :((((

  6. Caera says:

Oh geez. I come back from the Taylor Swift concert to find the most heart wrenching page yet! *Whimper*

And the VI: Bea, you are far more patient than I. I’d have run out after them by now…

  7. Lauren says:

I saw the preview on the blog, and I felt sick… :’(

Rest in Peace Thomas Knowlton… you’ll be remembered in your men’s, your son’s, and your fan’s hearts. <3

  8. nessili says:

okay, I don’t cry easily…hadn’t yet…up until that last panel. Oh gosh. the blood on the grass, and the leaves blowing gently on the winds of change…It’s just my allergies causing my eyes to water and nose to sniff…

Poor, poor Fred. Now, go out there and do as your pa told you–he’s watching you.

VI–BEA! whyfor you still sit there like a lump?! Do something! Even if it’s a breakdown with drama queen hysterics, that would be more like you.

    • Lora says:

I don’t think Bea knows what to do. Follow the smoke? What would she do when she got there? How would she know how to get to the American lines and not the British? Last time she ran onto a battlefield it was an accident but it didn’t end well and she promised herself she wouldn’t do that again: http://www.thedreamercomic.com/comic.php?id=160

Though, it *is* Bea, so if she changed her mind I wouldn’t be surprised. ;)

      • nessili says:

I didn’t expect her to do anything useful, just to show a bit more emotion than she has. she’s got it all bottled up inside right now, and she’s going to blow hard when she does blow…unfortunately, that time is likely to be in the 21st century :P

    • Julie says:

I don’t know. If I were Bea, I’d march right out onto that battlefield with finger extended into Alan’s face…
Bea: “Mr. Alan Warren! All summer with no correspondence, and you finally give me this??? It’s beautiful, and certainly of the calibur I’ve been expecting for months, but the overall sentiment is all wrong!”
Alan: “Umm, Beatrice? This is a battlefield. Can you please leave before you get killed?”
Bea: “I won’t die. I’m still alive in two centuries! And stop trying to change the subject!!”

      :)

  9. telenica says:

wahhhh! it is so sad. I am going to miss Thom so much. Go Freddy! Take your father’s place. Be strong! *Cheers while sobbing*

  10. Amber says:

I wake up in the morning and find this update….

Ttttrust me.. I just have a case of early morning eye problems… They always water like this.

Knowlton, cheers to you our brave hero, cheers.

  11. Nikita says:

When I woke up this morning saw the text on my phone from twitter about the updated page, I knew I had to make sure I do not have people near me. I knew I would cry, but the biggest thing that really cause my tears was the last part where Fred is alone with his Dad. I wanted to jump in the page and hug Fred and cry with him. Knowlton was a great man who lost his life for his young country. His wife, must have been proud to say she was his wife and no one else’s. Thanks Lora for making me cry, and in the morning too. :(

    Nikita

  12. Jen says:

    So beautiful. So sad. :*(

I have to day, The Dreamer is my favorite thing about Wednesday mornings.

  13. Niky says:

Thank you for making me care so much for these people, you’ve made them so real and tangible. Though I’m going to be a bit of mess now Knowlton is gone, it is a true testament to the beautiful job you’re doing with The Dreamer.

I’m just going to go re-read earlier issues so I can live in denial now. *chants* He is not dead. He is not dead…

  14. Niki says:

No, no, no, no, no, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO *insert varied wailing noises here* Nooo you finally did it :(( *sniff sniff* I was NOT expecting this to be “the” quote page, mostly because the last update featured poor ol’ Nate…shocked me in any case. Man oh man…just..epic..sad, heartwrenching…all in one page…….. Excuse me. I’m gonna go crawl under my bed and go into denial now…..

  15. Niki says:

Oh, before I do, I must say how much more flippin’ DASHING Hamilton looks when he’s…dirty. Not so prim and proper and spotlessly clean ;) Sorry. Random note.

And hey…where’d Knowlton’s shirt go? O_o surgeon rip it off?

  16. Rae says:

NO!!! So Sad! But it was done beautifully you really captured the emotions well.

  17. Alyssa says:

    I’m not crying.

It’s just raining on my face.

Beautiful, beautiful page. My sister told me to read it with this music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Hre5fkdq-0

    • Brent says:

That music always reminds me of these scenes

      -Aaron being introduced
-Shannon crying over Boone (not realising he’s now a vampire ;-) )
-all of them boarding the plane

  18. Brent says:

okay, i got it now…. INCENTIVE CAPTION!!

Bea: “Okay, if I steal Brego, the battle is about ten miles away, maybe ….damn it, where’s a jewelry loving hobbit when you need one?”

  19. Noriko-chan says:

    Nooooooooo! :(

    What it felt like:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Co27asXcXqQ

  20. Hannah says:

God, that last panel! I was okay until I saw THAT, and now I’m just a blibbering mess of sadness and tears.

But great job on the page, Lora! I suppose it’s a good thing when a death scene makes you cry, even if doesn’t feel like it at the time :(

  21. Half Moon says:

Another poem fitting for a Knowlton farewell:

    Somewhere,
    There is a city,
    Made of Glass.
    Where the Sun shines clear,
    And the Moon is pure,
    Where the day brings Love,
    And the night is Peace.
    War, and Hate,
    Do not exist.
    Everything is Fair,
    All are Equal,
    This City is where,
    Angels sleep.
    This City,
    Puts Paradise to shame,
    And perfection,
    In perception,
    For so great,
    Is the Peace,
    The mere Sight induces,
    That the only thought,
    Your mind may host,
    Is “I have been Lost,
    And at last,
    I have return home.”
    This City made of Glass,
    Is home to all.
    To you,
    And to me,
    For there,
    In that perfect place,
    We are all alike,
    There,
    We all may finally rest.

    *edit for this page*

    I go there now,
    I wait for you,
    I watch your life,
Live it as I have taught you,
    Make me proud,
    My son,
    My boy,
    Remember me,
    And pray for peace.

  22. Faith says:

    :(

The old Knowlton is dead. Long live Freddy!

    • David says:

Oh, c’mon! He’s not even cold yet! But seriously, the really worst part of this is that we can’t just shrug him off as just another dead comic character who’d probably get resurrected a few issues later if he were a super hero or villain. Thomas Knowlton was an all too real flesh and blood person who went long before his time. I am certainly going to miss him, crusty exterior and all. Anyway, I hope you didn’t think I was getting on your case. Keep the faith, Faith!

  23. Amber says:

I found this video of Thomas Knowlton!

  24. Cat says:

*sobs* MY FAVOURITE CHARACTERS ALWAYS DIE. ALWAYS.
