New Page 23! Next week will bring a close to Issue #10 already.

I hope you enjoy the art on this page. This is the first time I’ve done a page of The Dreamer 100% digitally. You can check out my new process, work-in-progress screen shots and all the details over at the Fan Flow. I’ve been looking for a way to speed up my process and this new digital stuff is promising.
I am really disappointed this week. I have been looking forward to the end of the story of Mrs. Murray and her lovely daughters in this issue so that I could do a blog post about the real history behind the events. But tonight I looked all over and could not find the notebook where I took all my notes from the biography I read on their family. I’m going to look some more. If I can’t find it, I’ll just have to go from memory. So look for a post about the history behind Issue #10 next week! I didn’t want to do it earlier, you know, spoilers and what not.
I’m not sure if I’ve announced yet that I’ll be a guest November 6 & 7th at Mid Ohio Con. I love this show because it’s in Columbus, Ohio, a short drive from my house. A lot of great friends will be at the show this year: Alan Evans, Beau Smith, Comfort Love and Adam Withers, Bryan Glass, Thom Zahler. There are more, but I’m sleepy. If you’re a midwesterner, try to make it out to the show. It’s a nice size for intimacy, and yet there are still some big names coming.
VOTE this week to see the adorable prize drawing I did for Anne Bannister, the winner of this summer’s FanArtPolooza contest!
See you next Friday when we sign off on Issue #10!

Aw poor Alan. He looks so sick :(
Poor Alan, and poor Nathan-all wet. Though I guess it’s not so bad, rain is good. I like rain. And Nathan…
And I’m guesing next issue is going to be 21st century since Bea looks to be drowsy? Oh dears…
Page looks great! All digital? You’ve got me beat.
I agree, Taylor, Alan doesn’t look too good. o_o
Alexander Fleming just couldn’t be born soon enough to get his Nobel prize for penicillin. -_-
The page looks excellent!
But whoa, Alan does NOT look good. Too bad there’s no way for Bea to transport some Tylenol back with her…OR IS THERE
:)
Alans really starting to make nervous…. he looks near death… and this makes me very very nervous
Ahh I just finished typing out a wonderful, well thought out comment and clicked submit only to realize I forgot to put in my email address! So, I guess I have to start over.
Well I must admit the characters look a little different with this new-fangled digital stuff lol, but it is a good different! I like how Bea’s hair looks and I even like how Allan is drawn even though he looks terribly ill on this page. I also feel bad for Nathan having to sit out in the rain, but I guess better him than Allan who looks like he could use some good meds and a warm bed!
Yikes, skeletal Alan! Get well soon. Wondering if his “I’ll die first” line was a bit of irony there…
And the vote picture IS adorable! I’m not necessarily a B&B fan (basically… I think he deserves better, haha), but this is such a cute pic.
The page looks great, poor Alan looks awful…IE sick. And it looks as if she is on the way back to reality, like it or not.
ALAN, DON’T DIE! Too many deaths for that. *sulk*
I glanced at your summary, then looked at the page, then read your summary… let me tell you, when I saw the page, I was thinking, “Heck yes, she gave 120%!” because I thought you were just talking about intense focus of passion and effort.
But OH – new media? Has it helped you improve the process at all? It’s noticeably different and good, not as if it was at all worse before, but I see a clarity and subtlety that just looks great. Awesome work! As always!
Aha! I was wondering when we would see “death” Alan, though I wasn’t looking forward to it. And of course we’ll be left in suspense, though I’m sure equivalent drama shall be prevalent upon Bea’s awakening into the reality of teen life in the modern era.
I look forward to Alan’s recovery, and all the terrifying dramaticisms we shall see in accompaniment.
Pip pip, cheerio, huzzah, and all that.
PS.. You did a great job on the all-digital page, but tell me: will your fancy drawing desk with light box miss you terribly from now on?
Oh, and I forgot to add: I’m impressed by your sleuthing skills on the Murray home’s appearance. I would imagine that kind of information is difficult to come by, so a round of applause is due you. It’s unfortunate how much information is lost to us, so it can be especially rewarding to find these types of things and spread the knowledge.
Poor Alan. He looks really sick. I hope he’s getting better soon. Great page btw! Love it :D
I hope they find Dr. John soon. Alan looks horrible :(
I’m not liking this dark foreshadowing. :(
And I’m definitely gonna miss the pencil lines. They always had that authentic old-school graphic novel feel to it to me. Haha. But it’s great to see that you’re getting comfortable with digital drawing now.
Oh my gosh, the prize drawing is soooooo cute!! We need more real-life soon! <3
These newest pages look absolutely stunning!
Poor Alan. =\ But I’m still extra-worried about Nathan…not necessarily for the same reasons. (No fair that he has to sit out in the rain, but it might do Alan in.)
I hope you find your notebook…that information is bound to be interesting!
Aw, no more blonde, feather haired Bea? XD Hopefully, Alan kept that had that was part of his disguise. It looks cold!!! So, that’s not good news for Nathan, driving and all.
Sweet Voting Incentive! I want Ben’s jacket.
Why is everyone worried for Alan? American heroes don’t die!
Also, THIS GUY has a soft heart and is easy to defeat… just challenge him for Cripple Mr. Onion. Or chess. Or poker (if you’re Granny).
I’m thinking about making a Dreamer/APH crossover fanart… just not sure if the heroes should be played by countries, or meet with them.
People have already said everything I would have said about Alan’s condition, so I’ll just content myself with saying that I really like the lighting on this page, and how the raindrops look on the window of the coach. And all digital now, really? Wow!
@Catiris: Your comment made me lol. “This page is 100% awesome!” Yeah, I used a new program to do digital sketching instead of drawing it on real paper. If I can get comfortable doing the comic this way, it should really streamline my work process!
@Allison: It hasn’t missed me yet. I’ve been doing freelance work on it all week! :) re: the Murrays, yes, I found a great well researched book on the family with an entire chapter on that event–not the usual 1-2 paragraphs they get in most books.
@CatClark: Well, the entire army is now going to be located up in one place. So they should finally be able to track down Dr. John! (hint, hint!)
@Miranda: Issue #11, you’ll get your wish. :)
@Kal: all digital!! Doing the rain in white instead of black was really fun. Glad you like!
Poor Alan looks awful (not the drawing, but sick). Hopefully he’ll be okay!
Love it, as always. Still jealous of your skills with digital art :P
Something tells me Alan is not referring to the war… it makes me sad, especially seeing him like this :(
Oh yeah, Nathan’s hat is cute, but why does it go up on one end? *curious* And I’m interested in reading about the real life Murray women. Good luck in finding your notebook~!
WOW! This page looks so great! Poor Alan! I have to agree with Carolyn it seems like there’s a double meaning :/ ALAN DON’T DIE!!! WE LOVE YOU!! I hope that Alan and Bea have some sort of meeting in the 21st century ;D
Thanks for an amazing update! I love how much life you put into your work :)
-Alyssa
Golly, Alan looks like hell… but not because of the digital page! It looks great, but oh man, I’m bittersweet about the foreshadowing! Hope you find the notebook soon :)
I will seriously throw THE biggest tantrum, one would put christian bale to shame, if Alan dies!!! so he better live! *shakesfist*
Love the page!!!! Nathan in the rain…please don’t let HIM get sick toooo….although I feel bad for Alan too, he looks like death warmed over…
@Aly A: Would you be talking about Christian Bales tantrum in Howls Moving Castle? I just finished reading the book, and it’s SOOO much funnier in written form!!!! (and there’s A LOT more slime!)
Hey everyone!! My story is up for all to read: check it out! http://login.fanfiction.net/docs/edit.php?docid=19773866
Oops, wrong link, sorry! Here is the real link: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6367428/1/For_America_and_Freedom
Wow, this page is REALLY beautiful, Lora. I hope you’re proud, because you should be!
On another note, AGH! Alan looks awfully ill. D8
Aw, Alan looks so sick :( No Alan, you must get better so you can snog Bea senseless, and make all of us drool… and, em, teach us about American history of course. :D
So excited!!! :D
Poor Alan’s not looking so hot. His red eyes remind me of spring…and the inevitable allergies.
And back in his day, allergies could be life-threatening. Because they didn’t have allergy shots. They just suffered. And in the wide open spaces of the untamed Americas, they suffered silently. While fearing attacks from Indians.
Then they all turned into cowboys and started taming the wild west.
Yeah…this is The Dreamer sequel. Beatrice with twins revolvers and kicking ass at the poker table.
Lora, all I’m saying – I’ll write it with you. Think about it. ;)
I have to say I am really enjoying the heck out of this story, and your artwork. I love American history (well, I love history in general, but American is my favorite).
Back when I started reading this, I tried to force myself to ration it out so it would last longer. Yeah, you can imagine how that went. :-DDD I read it all in one big gulp.
Love it, keep up the good work!
@Regina: Ha ha, glad to hear it! <3
@Trevor: I think someone needs to make a drawing of that. XD
And no luck with the notebook. :( I'm going to have to pull from memory which is usually pretty reliable. But don't put anything I have to say in a book report without checking the facts first!!
