enjoyed the update as usual :)
Great update as always, but Nathan’s last line puzzles me a bit — why would Tories need to fear for their trees? (that whole Whig/Torey thing always confused me — all I know for sure is what they’re called, that Beatrice is a Torey, and that it was something to do with who you supported in the war).
Keep ‘em coming!
A Tory was part of the Parliamentary Party in England who committed the tyrannical acts upon America. The Whigs were ones who voted for reform and a better Britain, but who were not in power in Parliament. In America, the Americans used this in almost the same manner. Tories were loyal to the King and patriots (whigs) were those who stood against the oppression of Great Britain.
Did that make sense Brent?
lol LOVE THE TOONS!!!!! Now I really want the Dreamer to become a movie with Disney…. ;) Tell me if this is a little sad but I already have a dream cast of voices lined up in my head….
Nathan’s so funny in this page “…you serve with Connecticut?” lol
@Brent: The Tories (also known as loyalists) weren’t treated very well by the revolutionaries. When Parliament closed down Boston Port after the Boston Tea Party, the other colonies sent support–food & supplies. This stuff didn’t always make it down to the loyalist families, even though they were in the same boat. Nathan is suggesting that the army will cut down the trees of the loyalist families first, sort of as a way to punish them.
Sadly, Mary Warren *did* lose her orchard to the Continental Army that winter. So Alan’s fears are warranted! The army was stationed on Roxbury and they didn’t do much there for nearly a year.
@Half Moon: It’s easy from our point in history to forget that back then, America really was 13 separate colonies. To get them to work with each other before, during and even after the war was no small feat. There was a lot of rivalry and mistrust between the colonies (later states) and regions.
Another awesome page by Alan, thus proving he can do more than just draw hot chicks beating the crap out of each other.
Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but it’s good to see the man’s talents extend beyond – as we know they do. :)
@Lora @Amber
Thanks, that did help — now i won’t need to reference wiki every time…..plus, that makes a scene in the archives funnier.
“What’s a Tory, Nathan?”
“Well, Miss Whalley….you are.”
Ironic humor is so much more fun when you fully get the joke.
@ Brent lol when I read that line in the comic I went “OOOOHHH SNAP!”
@Caera, I wish I could ‘like’ your brawl comment. XD
Thanks @Trevor!
@Albone: Bwahahaha!!!
@Lora: yeah…if reading history books teachs me nothing else, it’s that de colonies no likey each other…lol. BTW, are you planing to put the Dreamer as a NOOKbook at any point?
I love your Tooney characters! I think they are really adorable =)
