We’re back with regular Dreamer updates!  Pages 1 & 2 this week!

alan_past

Looks like Bea is having problems sleeping.  Well, more problems than usual that is.  ;)

Not much new news this week.  The Frederick Story is still up for sale, and if you haven’t read it yet, you’re missing out!!  Because if you can’t tell from this week’s update, we won’t be seeing our 18th Century friends for awhile.  So at least you can read about them!

VOTE this week to preview next week’s update!

  1. Angie says:

    Wow, I think I’m confused.

But Alan at her bed side AWWWWWWWWW!

  2. Hillary says:

    OMG I LOVE EISLEY!!!!
that just made my night. :D

aww so sweet. It kind of makes me sad at the same time though. *sniff*
But, you know. I’m ready to see some Cato. BRING IT.

  3. Natalie says:

Great to finally see Bea’s parents. I was worried they wouldn’t even notice. Good to see they’re concerned.
Nice song too. Really sets the mood.

  4. SwinS says:

I absolutely loved this update. I’d been curious what sort of effects being in that limbo between awake but nodding off would have on her.

    Incredibly sweet. : )

  5. Ginny-gin-gin says:

Alan looks really worried! Poor boy! I wonder if she’s still half-dressed. I don’t think he would be entirely comfortable with that but maybe he too tired to care.

Will the Freddy story stop being on sale? Do I need to find a way to buy it right now?

I’m really excited to finally see the 21st century again! (I’m looking forward to the Halloween dance, although I get the feeling it’s a ways off.)

  6. Christina says:

Wonderful pages, I love how the one century fades into the other while Bea drifts in and out of sleep. And Alan, just wow… I really hope Bea finds him in her own century.

I can’t wait to see what else will happen? How will Cato react when he sees Bea again? Crap! Is it next Friday yet?!?

  7. deb says:

I was listening to The Prince of Egypt soundtrack while reading and I just cried. This week’s so sad and depressing. Poor Alan. I love how raw the emotions seem to be in these pages. Looking forward to next Friday.

  8. Emily says:

    Eisely!? Yay, another fan. :)

I have to say that these two pages were quite impressive! Two centuries fding in and out..and Alan by her bedside… I think it’s rather charming!

  9. Ellira says:

Ooooh nice. This could provide some amusing opportunities. Dozing in class, Bea could end up being taught by Nathan. ^^

That leg wound of Alan’s looks nasty though. He should go see the doctor!

  10. Melody says:

I almost have enough money to buy one of your comic books! And nice picture up there by the way it looked like that took a while for you to make.

Gtg, but I’ll come back soon!

    Melody

  11. Erin says:

Aww, these pages made me tear up… *sniff*

It’s cool to see both her parents’ along with Alan’s reactions to Bea’s “strange” behavior. Daww, I’m gonna miss our 18th century boys, but I guess it’s time to see what the 21st century is up to! ^__^

  12. Ekio says:

You have such a beautiful style. Even the subtle differences in her hair between her dream and her real life are just fantastic. Can’t wait to see more and can’t wait until I can order books from you!

  13. Wendy says:

A.maz.ing. I’m really blown away by the composition, emotion and subtlety of story in these pages.
    Very well done.

  14. Albone says:

Great pages, Lora. The fading in and out from one time to another is really cool, but that’s no way for her to get any rest though. A great way to see our 1776 friends which I assume we won’t be for a little while. Got some new insight into her folks, they certainly mean well. I like Eisley but ‘Go Away’ seems like a song about ex’s. Alan’s no ex! Hmph. :P

  15. Caera says:

That was AWESOME! It’s like that half dream, half awake state I catch myself in all the time. Alan is SO CUTE. But he must sleep. *Nathan and Caera kidnap Alan and bundle him up in a sleeping bag and put him back next to Bea*

  16. Alex says:

D’aaaw. Fluff. My favorite :9. Good concept going on there. Really nice job on drawing these pages, especially Alan’s face. He needs some love. Fo’ real. <3

  17. Lora says:

@Angie: Bea is sort of drifting in and out of sleep, and as she does, she finds herself jumping back and forth in time. Sounds like a bad episode of LOST now that I think about it… ;)

@Natalie: Well, at least one parent is concerned. Bea & her mom seem to have a… strained relationship. And Sarah doesn’t seem too happy about Bea skipping school to pig out. ;)

@Ginny: No, the Freddy story will stay for sale up on the site! No worries. As for the Halloween Dance, it is a ways off but that doesn’t mean they won’t be talking about it/planning for it!

@Albone: That is no way for her to get any rest. Did you vote this week? ;) She looks unhappy. As for Alan well… didn’t you see the cover?? When she says ‘go away’ I think she might mean it!

@Caera: I don’t know how Bea’s dad would respond to Alan in a bundling bag. Wait, yes I do: instant death!!

I’m glad you all loved the update!! I loved writing it and the drawing of it took a little work to pull it off, but by your responses I think I did! Thanks for the love!

    And shout out to all the Eisley fans out there! Huzzah! My sister Tina who helps me color The Dreamer from time to time actually introduced me to them a few years ago when we went to one of their concerts. They played in a tiny little place that was about 30′ X 40′ so there were no bad seats. Actually… there were no seats. XD But they are so stinking adorable that I actually got my hair done like one of the girls, lol! They are THAT cute IRL! ^^;

  18. Hannah says:

Such cool pages! I like the fading in and out effect, really neat. And poor Bea doesn’t look happy in the vote incentive, does she? Well, I guess no one would be if they had to face the 21st century after being shot at with cannon balls all night…

  19. Paula says:

I agree with Hannah, awesome fading in and out effect.

The voting incentive made me want coffee. Since Bea lives around here, she must be getting Dunks. :D

  20. Lora says:

lol, Paula, I found plenty of Starbucks in New England! XD Maybe not enough as many as around here… but I went all week without having to drink a DD coffee. ;)

    *whew*

  21. Albone says:

Bea hitting drive thru is a good way to get some greasy carbs in her. NO doubt, that will put her right out. On second thought, she’s getting coffee, isn’t she? When she says ‘go away’ I think she might mean it! I’ll believe it when I see it. My optimism for their love counters the pragmatic limitations of the situation.

  22. Blair says:

    Wow, I love Eisley!

    Sad pages, though… :(

  23. Kaite says:

These are some of my favorite pages so far. Beautifully done and they really do get the split life/predicament across well. Good to see the parents too. It gets to me when main characters in comics seem to go on these ‘adventures’ or whatever and the family never seems to notice. Wonderful work!

  24. Faith (The Other Faith) says:

For a split second, I thought I was looking at General Howe kissing Bea goodnight, and I almost choked on my breakfast! Then I realized it was her dad. Phew! 0=)

    Beautiful pages!

  25. Lora says:

ha ha, Faith!! After he was done and colored I realized he looked a bit Howe-ish. Good thing I didn’t put him in a red shirt! ^^; I think Howe giving her a goodnight kiss would’ve woke her up for sure! lol!

lol, Albone, McD’s would put her in a coma for sure. This issue: Bea starts a healthfood diet to help her stay awake. XD

  26. Janaun Melvin says:

I am so impressed! This is an intriguing sequence. You just nailed the angst with Alan… nailed it! Loved it! I have a suggestion for other people reading these two pages: Do what I did: I opened up a second tab, brought up Eisley: “Go Away”, and played it while reading along with the comic. It really puts you in the moment. Very effective. I am sad to be leaving the revolution for awhile, but I understand that it’s necessary. I hope we hurry back soon. Great job!

  27. Meaghan says:

Much like Faith, for a minute or two I sat there wondering why on earth Howe was giving her a goodnight kiss. When I figured out this was the present day sequence I realized it was her dad, and life was good again. This update was amazing! Poor Alan though, he needs some sleep. =D

  28. lizybeth says:

    Great set of pages!

  29. Angie says:

No, I understand that she was has half asleep but what confused me is like… complicated.

Like, how real are her dreams? (I mean, I know they are pretty much historically accurate and I don’t really expect you to answer this little musing) but is what happens to her in the dreams acutally happening to her (or has already happened to her) or are they just dreams? Because if they are just dreams is her dad coming to check on her and give her a kiss good night and she is dreaming that it’s Alan, I might think that’s a little creepy. But if they are both checking on her at the same time in two diffrent realities, then that’s just adorable.

Also, I listened to the song, cause I’d never heard it before, and read the pages while it was playing. It was pretty awesome

  30. Erika says:

Absolutely brilliant. Ya nailed it again! :D

  31. Karen says:

I just found this site yesterday, and have enjoyed it immensely. I’ve been in love with Nathan Hale since 1970, when he was featured on an episode of ‘Young Rebels’. You’ve portrayed him exactly as I’ve always imagined him: sweet, kind of geeky, and full of boundless enthusiasm. I was impressed that you included the detail of the powder burn that Asher Wright described when he was interviewed in the early 1800s. I love the foreshadowing you do, as in volume 1 number 23.

Your leads are great too, but I have to admit I’ll be looking for more of Nathan…I just got your short story about him and enjoyed it too.

  32. Elaine says:

Just read the new pages … so incredibly sad to be saying goodbye to the 18th century *sigh* … but great job!
I have no clue who Eisley is but I’m jumpin’ on the Limewire now to find out…

  33. Himani says:

I found this week’s update particularly beautiful, well-developed, and well-crafted. I liked the interplay between the song and the two time periods. It pulled at the heart strings just enough. Fantastic job! :)

  34. Diana says:

    Sweeeeeet.

I’m generally thought to be intelligent, and should therefore say something else that might support that view. But I don’t think I need to.
