New Pages- 10 & 11!

New Friday, New Update, New Pages 10 & 11 but the Cold War between Bea & Ben continues!

fine_by_me

I think Bea needs her sleep. Someone please make her take a nap.  Even John is starting to look pleasant next to her.

Have I mentioned yet that I’ll be at Heroes Con in Charlotte?  June 19-21st!  If you’ll be there, I’d love it if you stopped by, said hi, and you know, bought some comics.  :)

VOTE this week to look at my drawing desk.  I got a new desk in January, with a built in light box and a lot more surface area.  Mike & my dad modified it for me even to my exact specifications.  They mounted a paper roll on the side that I pull across the desk and draw on when I do perspective drawing that necessitates vanishing points that reach far beyond a normal piece of paper.

10 Points to the first person to find the George Washasaurus!

awesome pages and man does Bea have some attitude when shes fed up. It looked like there was gonna be a fist fight with that cheerleader for a minute.

I cant wait to see what goes down between Bea and Ben next week.
The tension is just too much!!!!!

HAHA george washasaurus. Thats too flippin sweet!!
btw, love the spiderman trashcan/whatever. lol

  2. enshogirl says:

Ben better be nice to her! *shakes fist*

  3. Natalie says:

Well I just reread a good chunk of issue 3. Bea really didn’t do anything to deserve that grief. For all Ben knew her cousin made her upset and then she was sick the next day (John has that effect on people).
Looks like Bea missed an awesome day.

  4. Albone says:

Ahahahahahaha!! I love pro-active Bea. And she told off mean-spirit cheerleader Shantel. Closed fists and everything! It’s times like these that I think we’re missing some good commentary from Yvette. Love the Liz sighting.

Awesome last panel there. You could cut the tension with a knife. I still got Bea’s back vs pouty Cato. Your the starting QB for crying out loud, suck it up. Or that’s what I’d say if I was in his ear. Showdown coming next week, I can’t wait. I predict pro-Bea makes the first move.

Snazzy looking art table. Is that a DVD player on your desk? I’m guessing the saurus thingy is the dinosaury thing on the, uh, thing by the window?

  5. Randi says:

As far as Heroes Con goes, what time will you be there on the 21st?? I might be in town that day, and I would DIE if I could meet you!!!

  6. Erin says:

Tensions rise! First a Civil War and now a Cold War… What’s next?? D=

I so love this. The Dreamer is about the only thing I can think of at the moment that represents teen life…. accurately. *mumbles stuff about iCarly and other random shows that I watch anyway*

And I’m really liking the the set up for your desk! Seriously, that’s pretty much what the future-drawing-desk-I’d-like-to-have might look like, lol XD Nothing too fancy, but it has all the tools and space you need, set to juust the right angle…. haha ^__^

  7. Kimberly says:

I agree with Natalie, I don’t understand why Cato would be pissed off at her and giving her the cold shoulder. It doesn’t make sense.

  8. Ginny-gin-gin says:

Everyone’s so confused about why Ben’s so mad but the truth of the matter is that boys are just as hormonal as girls, they just don’t have a good excuse to be that way. Plus they have massive egos and, since Ben is a QB, albeit a nice, cute QB, he should have at least a small chip on his shoulder. At least that’s what I think.

Bea totally reminds me of my sister. When their both sleep deprived they become NASTY. I do think that it’s a good idea to talk to Ben, though. I hope it goes okay.

  9. deb says:

Ooooh, cat fight. Hahaha. That was what I thought when I saw that panel of Bea and Shantel. XD I don’t know why but I think Ben’s big baby act is getting cute. I saw my 7 year old cousin do the exact same pose when he was doing something he didn’t like and stopped to sulk. Good one this week!

Oh oh oh! Is George next to Mike? I can’t make it out. D:

  10. deb says:

    (sorry for the spam)

omg! you said washasaurus and I finally see a george washington DINO at the cupboard. kudos to you, lora. seriously!

  11. Emily says:

Ooh, methinks that Shantel and Bea will have a throw-down! BTW, since we’ve had a Civil War and a Cold War, the only thing we need is a World War/Nuclear War. take your pick. Let the games begin!

  12. Emily says:

I see the George Washasaurus! It’s on the little table near your desk, and it’s right next to a picture frame, right?

  13. Ashlee says:

Loved the final panel of the second page! Ben’s gonna get an earful…! Lol… Oh Bea, your poor heart/head!

  14. Lora says:

@Hilary: The Spidey trash can is for recyclables, the blue one for trash. :)

@Albone: Actually, Yvette (and her commentary) is the one who trained Bea for such a day as this. ;) The Portable DVD Player is for watching Pride & Prejudice and Gilmore Girls on endless loops while I work.

@Randi: We’ll definitely be there on Sunday! We might cut out a few hours early to drive home, but from open until two or three expect me there for sure!

@Erin: My drawing desk is surprisingly affordable if you have an IKEA nearby. It’s absolutely perfect, I love it! (the paper roll addition didn’t come with the desk, though.)

@Kimberly & @Natalie: I think it has less to do with logic and more to do with the fact that Ben’s ego is hurt. I don’t think Ben is the type who is used to having girls make up excuses to leave early on dates. Ginny pretty much hit the nail on the head.

@Deb: Yup, the George Washasaurus was a gift from my sister. He’s George Washington in his French & Indian War Militia uniform. You know… if he was a triceratops.

@Emily: We haven’t seen the last of Shantel.

  15. Ashley says:

Whew! You could cut the tension with a knife….a butter knife!
LOVE your desk, it makes me want to clear mine off again and draw….I think I will….

Gilmore Girls and George Washasaurus ftw!!

  16. Anne says:

Has anybody brought up the uniform parallel? I think it’s really interesting that both objects of Bea’s affection wear blue uniforms. Not to mention the fact that her vest is a bit military-inspired. I just think it’s a really interesting visual detail, one of those small underlying story elements that makes the whole thing so interesting to read.

  17. Enigma says:

ooo! this is way too exciting! And i have to wait til next friday! NEXT FRIDAY! that’s 7 whole days away!

    lovely pages lora! :)

  18. Katie says:

BAH! Ben needs to be nicer. :[

Bad Ben. Bad. Donchu know how caffinated Bea is today? Be nice to ze Beatrice.

As much as I love Yvette and being in the present though, I can’t help but miss our dear Nathan and Alan. Can’t wait for her to start dreaming again…

  19. rose-rayne says:

That’s right, Bea, you just go on up and tell him how it is. xD

Also, question, I love the clothes your characters wear. Do you base them off real clothes or make it up?

  20. Colleen says:

You are so good at creating atmospheres, I love the crazy tension going on in the pages, it’s perfect! And I really enjoy seeing Bea being nasty, it really rounds out her character and is pretty entertaining, especially when she tells the cheerleader to shut up xD

And I am mad jealous of your desk, it looks awesome. But really the one detail that blew me away was that roll of paper for perspective, that’s such a simple but incredibly brilliant idea. I can’t believe nothing like that has ever crossed my mind, I have to do perspective by taping computer paper together to my piece and then lining up books/folders on the ground to make a hard surface because my desk won’t fit the papers xD

  21. Lora says:

@Colleen: It was from doing things like taping paper together and lining up books which lead to the idea of the paper roll mounted on my desk. :) It has worked amazing so far!

Oh, and thanks for the comment on Bea’s character. My hope was that both she and Ben would become more 3 dimensional in this issue.

@Rose-Rayne: Both! I use Deila*s catalogues a lot. For Bea… and myself. And sometimes we even share clothes. ;)

@Anne: Yes, Bea is apparently attracted to men in uniform. Though… poor Alan is the only officer without a snappy blue & white coat. Someone should remedy that!

  22. Faticia says:

I understand that Ben’s ego is hurt, but he gave no indication of it that night. Is he acting like a jerk because he had a day to mull over it along with all of the questions/whispers from random people on the day following the date when Bea didn’t appear at school?

I absolutely love how Bea is handling this. I really don’t think there is any other way to get through to people with big egos, but, then again, I’m awful at subtlety–the only approach I know is the sledgehammer approach.

  23. Donna says:

Looks like you cleaned up a bit! The GeorgeWalarsaurus is on the right bottom side of the picture next to the picture of Mike. Also, these pages were a blast!

  24. Nicole says:

    Great update! Whee! :)
    I looooooove Bea’s outfit. It’s so freakin’ cute. :P

  25. Caera says:

Hey! I wouldn’t let any man drag me off by the arm! Elbow him Bea, before he thinks manhandling you is ok! lol Sorry I have a big personal bubble. lol

  26. Tsubasa says:

I think that it would be somewhat funny if she broke down. Tiredness causes emotions to be really exaggerated so it would be kind of interesting to see how Ben reacts to a complete and utter break down. I love the way you write this it’s so good. It’s historical too which I just love.

  27. Erin says:

Cool, thanks for the info, Lora!! I’ll have to look into that. Living next to Houston, I think there’ll be a store around here somewhere… ;)

  28. Natalie says:

    Happy Birthday Nathan Hale!

  29. Laurasaurus says:

I definitely feel Bea’s frustration. I think it would mess me up to be having those dreams, too. And then to wake up to a bunch of high school drama?! Yech! No rest for the weary!

But, I think Liz is getting the blunt end of the Bea stick this issue. She’s trying to be nice and has gotten snapped at multiple times….Yikes!

  30. firewolf says:

hah! I just realized I have a vest just just Bea’s!! XD

And as for the new page… Can’t wait to this how this goes down! :O

  31. firewolf says:

    ack, sorry– that was supposed to say “just like Bea’s!” -_-;;

  32. Faticia says:

Caera, I’m with you. She should have elbowed him. Personal space and a respect for self demand it. (That and I think it would drive the point home that there are people who don’t think he’s the center of the universe.)

  33. Brent says:

YIKES! I miss a few pages, and Bea goes nuclear in the meantime! Remind me to never piss her off!

Anyway, now that I’m temporarily here again, I gotta say…..I loveloveLOVE Bea’s outfit! It is really supercute and reminds me of stuff that some of my friends from school wear, so kudos on that!

Oh, and as for Ben dragging her off like that…..while I’m not okay with it, as more than a few people here also are (meaning against it), I can kinda get why she’s not resisting, since she’s too busy wanting to talk to him and be mad at him for ignoring her that she’s grateful for any kind of attention. Although to be honest, that almost makes her sound like some kind of desperate attention-whore, and we all know that that’s not true, don’t we?

By the way, does that last panel remind anyone else of the first panel in the whole comic, where Alan is grabbing Bea and about to rescue her from the British?

  34. Lora says:

Glad to have you back Brent!!!
