Nathan’s prayer on these pages is largely taken from a prayer in a book called “The Rise and Progress of Religion in the Soul. Illustrated in a Course of Serious and Practical Addresses; with a Devout Meditation or Prayer, Added to Each Chapter,” by Philip Doddridge, 1771. (By the time an 18th century author was finished naming their book, there was no need to read it…!) This was taken from the final prayer, Chapter XXX “The Christian honouring God by his dying Behavior.” It really is a lovely meditation, full of all sorts of sentiments that sound strange and other-worldly to our modern ears. I love reading things from the past–they open your eyes to thinking about familiar things in new ways.

Wow….beautiful update. The prayer was especially moving and I like how it could apply to a few people for both senders (Knowlton, Bea) and targets (Alan, Nathan). That plus Bea’s praying at the end (along with ominousity of the VI) make this yet another awesome update.

This is incredibly powerful, especially the capture of the characters down at the bottom panels. The emotion playing out on their faces speaks volumes even though their mouths may not.
I think the beauty of language in general is unfortunatly lost in our present world. It takes passages like these to remind us how powerful words and prayers are…how important and how potent.

Actually Lora, there’s something I’ve been wondering — what mansion are they currently camped out at? I know it’s somewhere in east NY, but beyond that….well, I’m not even sure that mansion still stands, much less where it is if it’s supposed to be a specific one.
These pages are breathtaking. It’s almost like watching a scene in a movie, the cinematography (if that’s what it’s called in comics) is absolutely beautiful. The prayer adds its own weight to the page; like others have said, I love how the words apply to all the different characters, even if they’re only meant for Alan.
Also, the line about meeting friends and hoping they find each other well almost had me in tears, given everybody’s present situation.
Daww! Yeah I remember our Drunk Duck days (currently it’s “THE DUCK” because Wowio said so), I so didn’t want you to leave there…heh. I got accepted to Spider Forest back in February with Plague and have since moved The Only Half Saga to their server as well. Lovin it there…I dunno if you’ve had a chance to peruse the current stuff – you’d probably be amazed how much my art has changed…LOL!
I really love this page, from the solemn prayer to the sweeping double page of the encampment under the silent watch of the mansion. I love also how you were able to place appropriate phrases with each of the cast members…lovely work!

@Brent: It’s the oldest house in Manhattan today. They’re in Northern Manhattan (not east) at the Morris House. Today it’s called the Morris-Jumel mansion and yes, you can tour it. If you go back through old blog posts–back in issue #8 when the house first appeared, the educational director for the house wrote a guest blog post about it’s history, complete with pictures for The Dreamer’s blog. Check it out.

What a powerful update! When I saw this update, I immediately felt a sense of emotion rising up within me. The way it focused on individual characters really moved me. We all know what will happen to some of these characters and thus it makes this scene all the more poignant and touching. I cannot write all what I feel about this update, for my emotion are messing with my words. It’s just, wow!

(The prints on Etsy never sold very well, and it was annoying dealing with all the listing fees and keeping up with it… the listings would expire after a few months and I’d have to repost the same products and it just wasn’t worth it for me financially. If you ever see me at a show, I always have them there!)
