New Pages- 7, 8-9!

You get a three page update this week because I couldn’t split up pages 8 & 9.  So Pages 7, 8 & 9 this Friday!  Enjoy!  For whatever reason there was confusion last time: you have to click on the Double Page Spread to see it full sized.  Hopefully Mike will find a way to work that out on the new site, but for now that’s the only way to view it.  Anyway, it looks like Bea’s Friday keeps getting worse and worse, and she’s in rare form!

(Last night she couldn’t decide if she wanted Ben, now she’s mad that she can’t have him.  Women!)

Special thanks to my girlfriends Beth Brockhaus (of Dreamer Trailer and insane cake-making fame) and Liz Hornbeck (who wrote the Frederick Short Story).  I spent Memorial Day weekend with them, and they helped me write the two-page spread.  I had major writer’s block on that scene which lasted months and months, and they came in to the rescue!  I think it’s one of the most fun pages in The Dreamer yet.  Hell hath no fury like… a football player scorned.

This was a great week for The Dreamer: we finalized the Graphic Novel and sent it off to print!  I think we came up with a beautiful book that won’t disappoint!  Also, I got pictures of the first Dreamer Cosplay (that I know of) and it’s too good to keep to myself.

(On a side note, I wanted to mention my Facebook account.  A lot of you have been finding me there and sending me Friend Invites.  Which… is really flattering that you hunted me down and want to add me.  But I keep my Facebook profile private except to friends and family.  I use my MySpace account for The Dreamer community, and when one of my friends or family updates, I can’t ever tell because my friend list is so massive.  For awhile I was returning each Facebook invite with a note explaining this, but it’s just grown too time consuming.  If you’ve sent me an invite, I love you guys and am really sorry!!  But let’s hang out here, on DeviantART, Twitter, or MySpace.  It’s not personal! Thank you for understanding!)

And VOTE this week to preview the new Dreamer Website I keep talking about!  Mike only let me post this under the strictest assurance that I would let you all know that it is a work in progress.  So there, I told you.  Now go vote to see it!

Awww! Hahaha I guess dodge balls are better than cannon balls! I’m holding out hope for Ben though, I mean someone kissed his helmet on the cover, and that pink doesn’t really look like Yvette’s color.

  2. Ginny-gin-gin says:

He’s such a boy, go for the man!
    -Amy Griffith

I hate his guts! What a meanie head!

  3. Beatrice says:

Oh, Bea. //pats her head// D: Gah, ALAN UNDERSTANDS GODDAMMIT.

Still, still… I guess he might’ve felt pretty upset. :/ WE’LL JUST HAVE TO WAIT AND SEE.

  4. Beatrice says:

And as for the new website, kudos to you, Mike! It’s looking great so far! <3

  5. deb says:

Cheers to the new website! Looks wonderful. :D
Ouch, to the cold shoulder. He’s so mean to throw the ball at her head! >_<

  6. Hannah says:

Okay, I’m sorry, but Ben seriously needs to grow up. But, I guess we can’t expect much more from a high school boy…Poor Bea, but she looks more angry than sad, good news for Alan! I wonder who did kiss Ben’s helmet? Angie’s right, it doesn’t look like a color Yvette would wear. Maybe it’s more symbolic than literal….
    The new website looks awesome!

  7. Albone says:

Cool update! The double page spread is excellent! Poor Bea is trying and continually shot down. I was in Ben’s corner but he’s just being a punk drama queen now. Mr. QB nailing Bea in dodgeball was kinda funny though. XD What?! Physical humor is funny! Ben does seem to come around a bit when mean cheerleader has a go at Bea and her Ben-produced-knot so I can’t wait to see how that shakes out. Thanks for the super update!

Yay Liz!!!! It’s been a while since we’ve seen her or this trio together.

Tell Mike that the new website is looking teh awesome!

  8. Angie says:

Wait! That was BEN who threw the ball at her head!? Well, that’s not very nice!

  9. Angie says:

Oh, but he looks kinda guilty about it later… eeek!

  10. Kate says:

Love those pages, as always! And the new website looks wonderful! I can’t wait until you roll it out!

Just wanted to say that seriously, I look forward to EVERY friday because it means theres a new Dreamer update. Yaaaaay Friday!

  11. enshogirl says:

The new website is looking sharp! I like how you created a separate link on the nav bar for the blog. I think in webcomics, those types of posts get missed a lot.

The “Read the Latest Pages” graphic is great too. It’ll be easier to see the latest updates.

  12. Lora says:

Aww, where’s the love for Ben? At the end of Issue #6 Yvette tells Bea that he was mopey at lunch the day before and didn’t even eat his meal. Though… perhaps yesterday was also Tuna Surprise day, and that might’ve had more to do with his lack of appetite than Bea’s quick exit. ;)

In any event, I don’t think Ben likes having his pride hurt… but do you?

  13. Ellira says:

Awwww. At least Ben looked kind of concerned by the end of the day. I guess he’s hurting a little bit too. I really like that page, it would have been such a drag to do that in a normal spread, but there it sort of flows through the suckiness.

I’m liking the website, buuuuut (and I hope Mike doesn’t take offense at this, because I really do like it!) I think the pink border around the banner looks a little weird. It goes with the banner image, but it’s sort of jarring next to the parchmentyness of the top. Maybe it’s just me and my hatred for pink, though. :p

  14. Kaite says:

So many memories of middle school and high school coming back to me now! Including the ball to the head. At least Ben looks sorry at the end. I think, if I were in this situation, I wouldn’t be nearly as quiet as Bea is. Though I don’t know if she’ll keep her thoughts to her self much longer if she and Ben don’t talk about it. Awesome double page spread!

  15. Kimberly says:

I… don’t exactly understand why Ben is so upset. Bea had every right to go home, said she wasn’t feeling well, didn’t come to school the next day – wouldn’t his first thought be, maybe she came down with something?

I didn’t expect Ben to be such a jerk about something, or to jump to conclusions. It’s not like he KNEW she was spending the day in Dreamer world swooning over Alan.

Anyway! Great spread page. As for the new website, I hope that the phrase “Live Free or Die” isn’t left out. I’ve always liked that at the top.

  16. Diana says:

I really don’t get Ben’s upsetness either. Did something happen on Ben’s end that we don’t know about? And Yvette is starting to annoy me, there’s no need to be so catty.

    New site looks great though!

  17. Bethany says:

At the moment, I actually think Bea’s being a bit immature. I mean really, how is Ben suppose to react? Women are too overly complicated and Ben’s a nice guy who just got snubbed by a girl who, in high school terms, is his “inferior”. (As in he’s a jock who could, as shown, get a cheerleader or any girl he wanted). I don’t know, I just have a hard time feeling sorry for Bea.

The new website looks awesome, but I do agree with Kimberly: the “Live Free or Die” is a great part of the website now.

  18. Erin says:

Aw, poor Bea. And also poor Ben. Both of them got hurt through misunderstandings…. I think both their reactions are understandable. Kudos on that, AND for the awesome two-page view of Bea’s day, lol XD

Now I’ve gotta give some kudos to Mike, too. That new site design is AWESOME. Even if it isn’t the /final/ one, I think he’s on the right track! Can’t wait to see the finished product!! =D

  19. Emma says:

First, I must say that my love for Yvette is growing with every page. The crack-in-a-cup comment was great.

Also Ben’s choice of tuna surprise was a genius bit of writing. He must be hating himself for that one…spiting Bea is not worth questionable cafeteria food. Did he really eat it or go back up and get some pizza after Bea was gone? It looks almost sentient. Maybe that’s what the look of remorse at the end is for.

  20. Kathy says:

I like the new website banner! :)

  21. Sami says:

Loved the new pages! I was so excited for them that I couldn’t even wait until my friend was home from school so we could read them at the same time! I have no self-control ;_; :D

The website looks spectacular Mike! Can’t wait to see the final! (though I suppose I have to :B)

  22. Lora says:

I’m glad you all like the website! I can’t promise that Mike will use all of your suggestions, but he has read them and will take them into consideration! I leave it in his hands, however, since he is the professional! He doesn’t tell me how to write my story, I don’t tell him how to design a site. ;)

@Emma: I agree on the “tuna surprise was a genius bit of writing.” That was all Beth and Liz. We were rolling when they came up with that!!

Is the tuna surprise sentient…? Well, this *is* a sci fi story, didn’t you know? The tuna surprise slowly takes over all the students in school (except Bea) and turns them into zombies. Bea then has to find a way to get her 18th century army friends into the present and take back her school! Nathan Hale discovers that the lunch lady is actually the tuna-surprise’s brain hub, and once he takes her down with his spontoon, the rest of the tuna surprise has lots its power. Having saved the day, Nathan turns to the cheerleading squad and says, ‘how you doin’?’ Alan takes Bea to her senior prom, Liz and Freddy hook up, Colonel Knowlton becomes the new Gym teacher, Yvette tells Ben she has always loved him and it’s all happily ever after.

  23. Caera says:

lol Ben is acting like a GIRL. Who knew? Meh, Bea didn’t help, but hopefully he’ll come around.

Actually no! Don’t let him come around! Let him just turn out to be a total jerk after all (high school drama style) so Bea and Alan can get married! Now we just need a time machine….

  24. Erin says:

Haha, love the sci-fi tuna story. XD Gosh, Nathan’s such a pimp! lol

  25. Emily says:

I think that sci-fi story is….HILARIOUS! We all know that’s what would happen. After all, we all know Nathan loves his cheerleaders. :)I’m not one though, unfortunately..maybe he likes a nerd?

Anyway, I think that the new website design looks supercalifragilisticexpealidocious! Pretty pretty pretty.

  26. Ginny-gin-gin says:

Did Ben mean to hit her in the head? That’s kind of low. In fact, I know from experience that it really hurts. (I bet that Ben also throws pretty hard. He IS in football and she does have a knot on her head now.) It would appear that Ben’s not really a gentleman; he hits girls. I agree 100% with Caera.

I might like PE if I had a teacher like Knowlton. =>

  27. Nicole says:

I completely agree with Beatrice’s comments up there. :D Ben. x_x Come on.

  28. firewolf says:

I’m liking the new site! Can’t wait for it to go public! :D Also can’t wait for the graphic novel! Keep up the awesome work! <3

  29. Blaise says:

The new site looks great! Also, I LOVE Bea’s outfit in these! :)

  30. Sarah says:

I totally agree Caera and Ginny!

Sure, brush a girl off and give her the cold shoulder if she’s hurt you, but don’t physically harm her as some kind of low revenge – not on! X(

Then again, I’ve always disliked Ben, so maybe this is my intense Alan-bias coming through. :P
