Page #10: A Spy

New Page #10!

Bea realizes Nathan Hale is a spy

Better late than never, Bea.

This page may or may not be a throwback to a previous Dreamer moment… Name the issue!

In case you missed, I’m on Tumblr now!

I am always finding interesting historical tidbits that I never have an appropriate place to share with you. I keep the blog here limited Dreamer related topics. I try to limit Twitter to relevant Revolutionary and Civil War fun facts (as well as writing/drawing comics tips). But what about the stuff too long for Twitter? Or from an era that I’m not currently writing about?

So I caved, and finally signed up for a Tumblr account. This isn’t for my art or sketches, I’m using it strictly for history fun! I know that’s your style.

So follow me if you’re interested in curious historical oddities, fun facts and yes, silliness.

  1. Colette Copeland says:

Aha! Now she’s getting the picture :)

    • Colette Copeland says:

Oh; you said in your website that you were working on a civil war comic–is there any place where I could read it?? (I may be totally confused, lol)

      • Lora says:

My Civil War books will be out next year. The information on my project isn’t up to date on this site, but you can check out the series here! http://www.toappomattox.com/Home.html

Hopefully I’ll have more news to announce about this soon, as good things are in the works.

        • Colette Copeland says:

Oh, yay! So, are you doing the writing or the illustrating?

          • Colette Copeland says:

Oh, oh wait–there isn’t any illustrating, right? You’re working with the actual show? So cool!!! I love the civil and the revolutionary war, and you at my new favorite person :)

          • Colette Copeland says:

Oh wait, wait again. Now that I see your name I see that you ARE IN FACT DOING 3 NOVELS on the civil war. I should really wait to comment until I’ve done all the research…..

          • Lora says:

Colette, I’m writing, as of this moment, 2 graphic novels that will tie into the television series.

Artists TBD. Publisher yet to be announced. ;)

          • Colette Copeland says:

:) Well, now that I’ve thoroughly embarrassed myself (and nobody has forgotten “plot chickens” yet) I shall go and hide in shame while I await the next update ;)

  2. Caera says:

Issue 5 page 1. Didn’t even have to look it up but: http://thedreamercomic.com/comic.php?id=113

    I LOVE IT, LORA!

And poor Bea, what’s she going to do??? To say nothing of Nathan.

  3. Amber says:

    She finally got it!!

  4. HenrikeD says:

Run Bea, RUN! Though I don`t know what she`s planning…

I bet here comes Ben. Or the teacher send someone to check on her.

    • Julie says:

      Totally Ben…that spoil-sport! :P

      • Lora says:

Poor Ben. First he was in trouble for keeping Bea from Alan. Now you’ll blame him if something happens to Nathan.

The poor guy just wants to be an actor and take Bea out for crab legs!

        • Joanna says:

Ben — he’s an interloper and a popinjay, and if he keeps Bea from trying to save Nathan and making a mess that Alan has to get her out of, I assure you, Nathan’s death will most surly be on Ben’s head.

          • Caera says:

The irony, seeing as his name is Ben *Cato*…

          • Amber says:

Hmm.. Could it be that Ben Cato is a fiction of Bea’s imagination?

Could it be that the last name Cato is inspired by the play of which Nathan quoted from?

Or maybe Ben Cato IS real, but he is Howes’ servant or slave. Bea, in her desperate need for a friend, befriends Howes’ slave. Could it be?

            Hmmm… Plot thickens!

        • Albone says:

Hmmmm….I can see this being Ben’s fault. !!! The real question is if Ben knows how to eat crab legs because they don’t come with instructions. :P

  5. Brent says:

Why no, this doesn’t remind me of the issue 5 opener at all… *cough*

    ^_^ ……I love callbacks.

    INCENTIVE CAPTION!!!

Innkeeper: “Here, you can hide in one of these.”
    Nathan: “But madam…..I’m a Whig!”

  6. All your drawings are wonderful, but I love Bea’s running form in the top panel. There’s a great sense of motion, force and urgency. So well done. :)

  7. Half Moon says:

I know what page, I just keep saying issue six instead of five ^.^” and I only remember because its right before my favortie part…Cuz, ya know, “It’s nothing I haven’t seen before”

  8. hazel says:

Oh Bea… He’s not going to be caught, he already’s been caught! You’re running nowhere fast girl.

But even if you somehow did manage to save him, you’d be changing the future! Unless of course you think you can keep him from showing up on any paper records for the rest of his life to make it look like he died. But that would probably be impossible.

  9. Susan says:

I’m pro mess-up-the-future-to-save-Nathan! I have no problems with that. You can ask Lora, I spent a fair amount of time trying to persuade her at the Nathan Hale Schoolhouse event. I even tried to bribe her by showing her my 1901 edition Nathan Hale biography!

    • David says:

I’m with you for saving Nathan! After all, it’s not as if our history would just blink out of existence the moment Bea rescues him and gets replaced by one in which the Soviet Union won the Cold War. Really, that would never hap LONG LIVE LENIN! Well, I guess those Capitalist pigs finally paid for their crimes. Eh, comrades? Eh?

  10. Fleece says:

    Meanwhile, in the future…

What is even her plan of action?! I hope someone (Yvette?) speaks her out of this madness and makes in clear to her that it is literally hopeless.

Anyway, we are at least soon to find out is it really History or Alternate Realaty

  11. batsandraccoons says:

I came upon this comic after looking up Nathan Hale, after I got these… uh, dreams about him, after I watched that one liberty’s kids episode.
I cried buckets when Knowlton died. AUUGGHHHH!!!! NOT NATHAN TOO!!!!!!!!
