New Page #11!

liz is panicked that Bea left class

I know that a lot of you are passionate about the Civil War. I know, I know, this is The Dreamer. We only talk about the Revolutionary War here. That remains true, but I have a favor to ask to history lovers with an interest in the Civil War…

To Appomattox needs your help.

To Appomattox is the Television Series that I’ve been brought on to produce graphic novels for. It’s set to air second half of next year, in the heart of the 150th anniversary of the Civil War.

(Actually, they recently changed the name to Grant vs. Lee, so don’t be confused if you see that title floating around the site.)

I’ve read the screenplays for all eight episodes and this will be, the most epic and beautiful historical television series ever made. I was blown away, which is why I am so excited to be a part of this project.

But we need your help: The producers have a very, very important meeting this Thursday and they need to prove that people want this series made.

Take a moment today (WEDNESDAY AUGUST 14th) to shoot a quick, one minute (literally) video on your phone and post it on the To Appomattox Facebook Fan Page.

Read the full details here from my friend, the show’s writer and producer (and most importantly, let’s not kid, longtime Dreamer fan) Michael Frost Beckner.

Let the network know why would you would love to watch this series. Love the cast? Love the Civil War? Want to see hot guys in period dress? No answer is the wrong answer!

Take a minute, right now, and send over your clip! They need to receive them on Wednesday (today!) so they can bring them to the meeting on Thursday.

Thank you so much in advance!

  1. Caera says:

I will send over a clip once my phone is alive again.

Oh so Lizzie is the callbacker! Will she finally believe Bea?

And I take back all the mean things I said about the Barmaid. Hopefully not too soon. :D

  2. Brent says:

Oooh, helpful little barmaid who kinda reminds me of a hobbit….really starting to dig you, girl :-)

And Liz…..just go with it, girl. It’ll make things easier.

Speaking of not that, I would totally do that video thing, but unless there’s a way I can v-text it to them, I’m afraid not.

    INCENTIVE CAPTION!!!

Bea: “Don’t you try to stop me, Liz! I’m using my stern voice! Listen to my stern voice!”
    Liz: “Ooooo…..”

    • Julie says:

For some reason I only got one sentence into your caption and immediately inserted my own version:

Bea: No stopping me this time, Liz. This is it. Don’t make a move Liz, not a step. The sleeping pills are in my hand. Don’t try to stop me, Liz.
      Liz: Oh, not again.
Bea: This is it. Don’t try to stop me this time, Liz. Don’t try to stop me this time, Liz. Don’t you dare try to stop me this time, Liz, try to stop me. Liz, you’d better get up off your ass. Get over here, Liz!
      Liz: I’m coming. I’m coming.
Bea: Stop me! This is not a joke! I’m trying to change history!
[Liz knocks the pills out of Bea's hand and onto the floor where they skitter under the nearest locker]
Bea: Don’t ever frighten me like that again.
      Liz: I’m sorry.
Bea: What are you? Some kind of a sadist?
Liz: I’m sorry. I’m sorry. How do you feel now?
      Bea: I want to sleep.
      Liz: Oh, now, now.
      Bea: There’s no adventure here.
Liz: [points to nearby picture of Ben] You call this no adventure?
Bea: Dreams are the only adventure I have left, Liz.

(with apologies to the original writers of this screenplay since I had to edit it to fit our heroine and her storyline)

      :P

  3. Kristine says:

Take a webshot of this message/comment. Facebook and my phone do not play nicely together. I would turn the channel to TO APPOMATTOX and make sure the entire family was on the couch.

  4. Beth says:

I can’t help but imagine Bea running frantically down the halls, shouting, “I don’t have time for this, Liz!! I have to get to sleep RIGHT. AWAY!!!!” What I cannot imagine is what Bea is actually planning on doing. Downing a dangerous dose of sleeping pills? Finding a book in the library on Nathan Hale for spoilers and then having her little heart crushed into tiny pieces when she realizes…. *sobs* Or is she… I don’t know!! I need to know!!

    • Jen says:

It’s hard to say. What I continue to find interesting in this whole sequence is that Nathan’s life is playing out for us even though Bea is wide awake – I don’t see her falling asleep just yet, because if she does she’ll just wake up next to Alan. And what the heck is he gonna be able to do?

It will be interesting once she does get back to the 18th century, because she knows now what happens to Nathan and unless she wants to break the brain of everybody in 1776, she can’t do much more than say, “You have to send someone after Nathan, I just have a really bad feeling about this, you have to get him out of Manhattan.” Or something to that effect.

Or maybe she’ll convince Alan to go with her to rescue Nate, and she’ll dress up like a guy (which would make it so much easier for her to get around) and they’ll sneak into Manhattan but they’ll be too late and then antics will ensue as they try to get back to their lines.

  5. Tamesin says:

Uh-oh. Is Nathan headed out the window again? Hope he’s wearing a cup this time:

(In case you were wondering, that’s the real reason he never had children.)

  6. Albone says:

I like the barmaid too. She reminds me of Sookie! (I think it’s the do-rag in her hair). XD I love Nathan’s expressions in the middle panels. And yay for Liz screen time! lol

  7. Colette Copeland says:

Oh, the girls name is Lizzie? Haha, that’s my name too :)

  8. Julie says:

I don’t have video making and posting capabilities. :( I’ve been talking about this series with my husband though, and we’ve agreed that we’ll watch it (and record it if we have to) when it comes on. We’ve both recently developed a lot of interest in history, and it would be very cool to have some of the things we learned in high school and college presented to us in a new way.

    • Lora says:

Awesome! Yes, as the show gets closer and my books come out, believe me, I’ll be reminding all of you.

For now though I to keep it off my blog so it doesn’t get in the way of The Dreamer.

  9. David says:

@Lora: What’s with those x-shaped laces on Nathan’s hat? Are they attaching the brim up against the crown to keep it in the tricorn shape?

  10. I have a hat just like it with the x’s. Its the stitching to keep it folded in like a triangle :). I’ve also seen them as being two parallel stitches…..but I prefer the X.

  11. trevor says:

Don’t have a camera at work, but sent in a message on the FB page for your TV show. The Civil War has repercussions that still affect this country to this day – and I’m not just talking about civil rights, but the separation between the rich and poor. The haves and have nots. The 99% and the 1% (to quote a recent popular comparison). And many more modern day cultural comparisons can be made to this conflict.

Another brilliant page, Lora. However…are things happening while she’s not dreaming? Hmmmmmm….

    • Julie says:

We already knew that thigns happened while Bea wasn’t dreaming. :) We just don’t always get to see those events.

  12. Scott M says:

    Incentive caption:
Bea: Nathan…I have to sleep. I mean, I’m not tired, but if I don’t, Nathan will…I have to! Where can I go…
Liz: Uh, Bea? I think you need to lay off the caffeine.
Bea: Yes! That’s brilliant! If I get enough blood in my caffeine stream, I’ll conk out for sure!
    Liz: …That isn’t exactly what I meant.

  13. Lora says:

Just want to say thank you to all of the Dreamers who have left video posts on the Facebook wall! Way to represent! You’re all so intelligent, thoughtful and well spoken. I’m proud of my readership!

  14. Half Moon says:

THE WINDOW! Out the window like issue 10!!!!! <3
