Reader Pages

For a long time now, I’ve been wanting to set up an area on the site where we can link to all of YOUR projects. I know a lot of you who read The Dreamer have your own things happening on the web, and I thought it would be super-sweet to find a way to give you room on the site to share it with each other! Unfortunately, unless any of you have seen an existing template for something like that, doing it here would involve a lot of coding and updating for Mike and he just doesn’t have that time.

So I figured the least I could do was a blog post. I’m going to list a few things I know of, but please share your endeavors in the comments section! You Dreamers are really talented, you send things to me all the time, and it’s time you knew about each other!

I’ve read Shadowchild by Caera Thornton, our resident Nathan Hale fanatic. She sent me a copy for my birthday a few years back and I couldn’t put it down. She wrote it when she was only 15 (I think) and has won awards for it!

Patterns for Nicki Moulton’s adorable amigurumis will soon be available in a book Knit This Doll! published by Wiley Books. She knitted me a Thomas Jefferson once.

Joanne Renaud has a beautiful historically-inspired portfolio site, that includes a picture of Bea, Alan and a sneering Betsy Loring at a ball!

Dreamer Issue #4 cover artist Chris Oatley recently started a new podcast to discuss the last season of LOST, called LOST Revelations. It’s a lot of fun!

Sarah Searle was the VERY FIRST person to ever send me Dreamer Fan Art! <3 Now she has her own webcomic, Under the Apple Tree. The comic has a beautiful vintage style I can’t get enough of.

Sarah Vaughn has some amazing regency-era art, crazy fun dress-up doll games, and a couple pieces of hilarious Dreamer fan art on her site.

I can’t forget Michelle Timian, who is currently looking for a publisher for her urban, sci-fi, fantasy novel, The Elevator. Check out her amazing gallery of Elevator Fan Art!

Katie does a lot of historical reenacting, both WWII and as a Hessian from the Revolutionary War. She has a super adorable blog for all things lady-like called Hunny Side Hill.

Mike’s cousin Megan Stringfellow has a wonderful whimsical fantasy illustration site. Do not miss her amazing Bunnique Plushies shop on Etsy!

And did you know that there is a section on FanFiction.net just for The Dreamer?! Check it out here! One of them, “Possibilities” by DaggerQuill is perhaps my favorite Dreamer Fan Fic ever. With the exception of details about Ben’s family, I think of the story as canon. She perfectly captured Ben’s character and motivations. Read it!

I know there are a lot more, and I’m sorry if I missed yours. But please post your websites and projects in the comments section! I’m excited to learn more about you.

Thanks for inviting us to post our pet projects. Here’s mine, been in the works for almost a year now. I just haven’t had the time to put it all together. These are process sketches as I work towards a webcomic about the silly and serious stuff I’m exposed to as a fireman.

  2. Lexie says:

I’m excited about what kind of fun projects people are working on.

If you like steampunk, then you might enjoy my blog. I am in the process of writing the first of a trilogy. It is a steampunk fantasy novel about a prince and his quest to the throne.

    http://sail-the-cartographer.blogspot.com

The blog has all kinds of character descriptions and plot ideas and I do a Question Friday every week. I’m looking for people who want to draw fan art too!

  3. Lora says:

Oh, Lexie, yours reminded me of Jim Ryan’s Raging Gail, an online novel about tall ships and pirates: http://raginggail.wordpress.com/

  4. CC Rogers says:

Thanks for this opportunity to share, Lora! I’m writing and illustrating a webcomic called “Rune – a Tale of Wizards and Kings”: http://www.riverfiction.com/Rune

I’ve got one more page to go for Issue #1! It’s a fun project.

  5. Sarah says:

Oh wow, that’s a lot of cool links to check out! Thanks also for letting us post our own projects. ;D

Outside of work I’m chugging away at my own webcomic: http://tmkcomic.depleti.com. It focuses on vikings and Norse Mythology. The girl I donated to the CCA a while ago is from this comic (though she hasn’t shown up yet). I like to write too, but don’t have any of that online.

Also…there’s a lot of Sarahs out there. Sheesh!

  6. Angie says:

No sister then? :) Thanks so much for the plug! A section of fan works would be so awesome, I loved seeing what everyone submitted for the contest last summer.

  7. Richenda says:

Why not install a CMS that has a link manager? There are some good ones that allow users to submit their own links. As long as they can sort by category or tag, it should work. :)

I can think of ways to use Joomla and WordPress for this.

  8. Adrean Clark says:

My current comic is 8 Ways to be Deaf — over at http://www.adreanaline.com/blog

    Thank you! :D

  9. Laura says:

Thanks for giving us the opportunity to share our stuff! I look forward to seeing what others post.

I’m making a webcomic called The Silver Eye http://www.thesilvereye.com/

  10. Katie M says:

I do historical re-enactments and photoshoots. My most recent one is Regency as Jane Austen. Photos can be found on my DA account here: http://singerofpearls.deviantart.com/

These fans/friends are all awesome! It’s so cool!

  11. Tigershark06 says:

Though I have a ton of projects, I’d like to promote my dhampir (Half-vampire) comic that has recently been compiled into The Only Half Saga

Covering the 600 year span of Cabal’s life, the Only Half Saga, gives the reader an insight into some of the major character shaping events he’s been through.

Thanks for giving us the opportunity to promote our works…It means a lot to get a place to cross-promote…

  12. Gina says:

What a nice idea!! I wish my webcomic was already started so I could link to a legit site, but unfortunately all I have so far is a few pieces of art.

But being the show-off I am, I’ll link to them anyway since it will eventually be something coherent! :) http://tamsthegenkiqueen.deviantart.com/gallery/#Dualite

  13. Wow! Cool :) I’ve got a project that I’m really proud of in the form of a novel and all the artwork that goes along with it. It’s called The Liberty Pole, and while the first draft isn’t finished yet (should be within a couple of months!) I’m hoping to have it out within the year. Here’s the summery on my DA account: http://takadasaiko.deviantart.com/journal/29835880/

Oh, also, we touched on Alexander Hammilton in one of my classes today and nearly busted out laughing. It’s hard to focus when you have the image that you have posted on DA stuck in your head every time the man’s mentioned. :P

  14. Caera says:

Aww, thanks for the mention! :D I should be done with rewrites of book two soon.

I actually only got nominated for an award, not won it. That was the messenger’s fault. The email they sent out was not written right. lol

  15. Lora says:

@Richenda: I’ve never heard of that, but I’ll look into it. Thanks!

  16. Pingback: Adventure, Romance, War. The Dreamer: A webcomic by Lora Innes

  17. Megan Rose says:

I have two comics. One is “YU+ME: dream” which also deals with a teenage girl dreaming and falling in love with someone there (quite a bit different, though). The other is “I Was Kidnapped By Lesbian Pirates From Outer Space!!!” which is pretty much exactly how it sounds. Both are at rosalarian.com.

Come to think of it, there’s a few webcomics about dream romances.

  18. CJ says:

Well, I don’t have nearly anything as fantastic as the things I’ve been seeing so far, but I have written a few plays! My highly amateurishly put together (and by that I mean, I put it together ahaha) writing portfolio is here: http://myweb.stedwards.edu/cjohnsod/portfolio.html which only has samples of my writing and plays because I’m terribly scared of plagiarizers.

Oh! I just remembered, I posted video on YouTube of one of my plays being performed at a small festival, its in two parts, only about ten minutes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ga1SYT7F_h8 and part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C71UfDjnmbI

I actually have a new one that will be performed soon! I’m really excited. Ahhh, shameless self-promotion. Everyone needs a good little dose every once and a while!

  19. Gary says:

I’ve been a long time reader of Dreamer. I have enjoyed the ride immensely.

Thank you for the opportunity to share our works!

I do a weekly webcomic called “George the Dragon”

It is a comedy/parody/spoof/satyre/sillyness of epic proportions.

    http://www.drunkduck.com/George_the_Dragon/

  20. Gary says:

Not sure if my last comment went through…

    I do a webcomic
    http://www.drunkduck.com/George_the_Dragon/

It is very silly but occationally rewrites history too :D

  21. spas says:

it’s not a comic and i could see it being controversial among a conservative american crowd, but i ran for office in the last two general elections in my country – for a unique political party that’s widely appreciated and not just locally. almost got in once and was all over the american media. this party is one aspect of my activism – my day jobs are more mainstream but also activist-oriented. it’s up to every one of us to make change, or none will be forthcoming.

  22. spas says:

by the way, i love rune and under the apple tree, so thanks for the links, people…but both of your websites are…not very user friendly. may i suggest you check out comicpress? it’s free and it would make your lives easier and make it easier on your readers. under the apple tree, in particular, is so difficult to view, it’s a real problem – and what a shame, because lora is right about the vintage-flavored art!

  23. Seanan says:

    I have a comic here – http://scatteredleaves.spiderforest.com/

Thank you for doing this!! :)

  24. Bethany says:

Whoops, I don’t know how I missed out on this!

    Faust – http://sympathytea.com

  25. Lizzie says:

Coolness. Well, here’s my humble webcomic: Nancy Drawn http://www.rabidlemur.com/comicmain.htm

  26. Tinkerbelcky says:

I *wish* I was working on a project. Every Friday when I come to see the new pages I get all inspired. But alas, it’s my portfolio site only for me: http://www.chelseacrutchley.com

  27. Alyssa says:

Mine isn’t a webcomic, but it is a sort of time-traveling story. It’s based on a myth that King Arthur (rather than chilling in Avalon or sleeping in a cave) was turned into a raven after the last battle, and in that form haunts the lands.

Somehow between the 6th Century and 2010, Arthur in raven form ends up in the U.S., and he turns back into a man while on Berry College’s campus in the middle-of-nowhere, Georgia. Much chaos ensues as he struggles to regain his memory and tries convince his new friends that he isn’t a nut case. Meanwhile back in England, some shady business is going on, and Merlin’s great-great-great-great-etc.-grandson is going to need some saving.

You can read it here: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5750087/1/The_Raven_King

  28. Mel says:

I’ve got one, but it’s not very far along. So far I have seven pages online, and a few I haven’t posted yet. The story is called “Loose Threads” kind of a slice of life/drama thing. It’s about Tianna, who lives with her older sister, Jesse. Jesse’s getting married soon, but her in-laws are prickly. Updates on Wednesdays both on my deviant account: root-beer-float.deviantart.com and smackjeeves: loosethreads.smackjeeves.com. :D

  29. Rebecca says:

I really enjoy this comic; it’s well drawn, well written, and – as the daughter of two historians, this means a lot – well researched.

Just for something way different, I’m a wolverine biologist and artist, with a blog about wolverines over at egulo.wordpress.com

If you scroll through the entries, there are a couple of previews for my own upcoming webcomic, Enlightenment Junkies, which is about eco-superheroes and (real, as opposed to the kind with mutant adamantium claws) superhero wolverines. It’s satire, but loosely based on reality insofar as it uses the comic book/superhero trope to explore environmental and ethical issues that we deal with on a daily basis.

There should be one superhero cover in the March 2010 entries, and then a glimpse of M2, the patriarch of the Absaroka Wolverines, somewhere back in January of 2010. I’m still trying to figure out where to host the actual comic, but once that’s sorted, it should be up and running soon.

  30. Seilann says:

Wow, I feel a little insignificant compared to all the amazingness I see up there… ^^; I don’t have anything visual — my calling is SF&F in literary form, rather. The link goes to my LJ community for my greatest (as in, longest and most time-consuming) story, Lavender. Non-members can read an older version of the first chapter and other posts; and in the unlikely event that you’d like to join, revised chapters 1-4 are the incentive.

  31. Trevor says:

How did I miss this post? I’m doing webcomics and movie / video game reviews on my website: http://www.trevoramueller.com

  32. Lotte says:

Thanks so much Lora for opening up this opportunity to have fans share their sites and their own creative work. This is so awesome and I’ve loved looking at everyone’s stuff. I find this a really neat way of checking out and supporting the work of fellow fans. :D

If anyone is interested I have a deviantart account with work and a website:

My friend has a webcomic journal called MAGULAFANTABULA, http://magulafantabula.thecomicseries.com/ She doesn’t update it always, but the stuff she does put up is great! The server, http://comicfury.com/ has a ton of webcomics as well.

  34. Liddy672 says:

I have a web comic. The story was just rolling around my head of about 8 years now and read the ‘Dreamer’ and seeing how Laura makes her comic actually pushed me to start making it. It’s not much yet but I’m quite proud of it. It’s called “Poetry” =D
    http://www.drunkduck.com/Poetry/

  35. Ally says:

Since we’re all sharing, I’ll take this time to shamelessly promote my projects too.

  36. Hey Lora,

I just saw this post and I wanted to add my webcomic in the mix. It’s called After-School Agent, and it’s about a 13 year-old boy who is forced to go on black-op missions for the government. There’s some action, some comedy, and a lot of family drama. Here’s the link:

    http://www.afterschoolagent.com

Are there any plans for another Dreamer graphic novel? I just re-read the first one. You have a great story.

    SCOTT

  37. Lily says:

Hi! I love your artwork — and historical fiction is awesome. ^^
I had emailed you recently with this, but I will include a link to my comic here as well:

  38. Lacey says:

I write historical fiction, just got the guts to post some of it here: http://ladyorient.deviantart.com/ along with a pic of one of my reproduction gowns.

I also modernize historical recipes here: http://misslesliesprentice.blogspot.com/

Trying to get more eighteenth century recipes, but it just isn’t working yet…

  39. Gary says:

I have a web comic, http://rm-r-comic.com , I look forward to checking out the other ones listed here. Thanks for creating a list, and thanks for putting together this comic, when I first saw it, I wasn’t sure it would be for me, but the art drew me in so I bought the first issue at WizardWorld, I read it when I got home, then got the next two the following day, then later the subscription online.

  40. HenrikeD says:

Wow, so many great projects here!

I have a future-to-be-webcomic project going on. I wish I could work more on it (and be faster with the colouring) but anyway, here are the pages I currently have: http://henriked.deviantart.com/gallery/#Janaija-Comic-Project

  41. Swinsea says:

    I can’t believe I didn’t comment on this, I totally thought I did!

Thanks so much for the plug. : ) I had a lot of fun checking out the other links, there’s some great stuff!

  42. Howdy! This post could not be written any better! Reading through this post reminds me of my previous room mate! He always kept talking about this. I will forward this write-up to him. Fairly certain he will have a good read. Thanks for sharing!

  43. Jc Alanko says:

My brother suggested I might like this website. He was totally right. This put up truly made my day. You cann’t imagine simply how much time I had spent for this information! Thanks!
