Week Off

No update this week like I warned you.  Good news:  The issue #8 script is finished, and I’ve been working on the cover and some concept art for the issue and am really happy with all of it.  I think you guys are going to like this issue.  Come back next Friday for the first update!

As for the something extra special we were hoping to have to you by today, well… it didn’t happen.  But it’s very close.  Should be done by Monday, so check back then!

And if you really need a Dreamer Fix today, check out the new Dreamer Meme I posted over at DeviantART.  What’s a Meme?  It’s a type of internet questionnaire that people like to fill out, usually with useless facts about themselves.  The fun thing about Memes on DeviantART is that instead of writing your answers, you draw them.  This one was a little remix that throws all the Dreamer cast into random situations with one another.  It was fun.

VOTE to preview some concept sketches I’ve been working on for Bea’s new costume that she’ll be wearing in Issue #8!!

That is a gorgeous jacket! I can’t wait to see what color it is. Will be back Monday.

  2. Emily says:

Thank goodness you finished it! I was getting a bit worried. ;)

Anyway….OMG I WANT BEA’S CLOTHES. I would totally kill for those clothes. And the hair! Ugh. Don’t get me started.

  3. Ariane says:

Haha I love the Meme! Thanks for posting that, hilarious.

  4. Katie M says:

I LOVED the meme and stole it for my own DeviantArt and used it with my book. hehe. it was a lot of fun.

  5. Hannah says:

I really, really, really want 18 century clothes…..

  6. Ginny-gin-gin says:

That is one fantastic meme! And I think that Freddy and Liz may just be my favorite couple now! =D

I’m guessing that Bea is going to get some sort of chamber maid because there’s no way that she could get into that wonderful dress herself. I mean, she couldn’t squirm out of one “last night”. Oh, and her hair is beautiful!

  7. Claire says:

Gorgeous! So graceful and elegent…Bea should definetly have one of those flat straw hats with the ribbon, those look so awesome (the small head and shoulders shot on the left is perfect). I drew one of those on myself while doing your Dreamer meme, they are just, that, sweet. =D

And your latest meme is nothing short of genius. I just about died laughing.

    God bless!

  8. Christina says:

Looking at all those costumes makes me want to start sewing again!

  9. Friedenmann says:

    Aw…
Lora, start making buffer sometime, please… some people are dying to see new pages here!

  10. Albone says:

Sweet looking new outfit. The hat is a nice touch. :)

  11. Angie says:

Woah woah woah, Liz is making out with Freddy and then marrying Knowlton! Maybe she IS a strumpet! Your epicly long meme made me late for class! Haha it was totally worth it though, hilarious!

My GN was delivered to my house last week, but I don’t get home until Saturday. I had a nightmare it was mini sized so I couldn’t read the writing and all of the drawing were the same style as the meme. I was very upset and then the entire book fell apart. The next day I got on facebook chat with my sister and made her open the box and check it for me. It was ok.

I’m hoping the special secret surprise is the t-shirts I remember hearing about before. But all of my Dreamer predictions are always wrong, so…

As for the costumes, why can’t we still dress like that? So beautiful!

  12. Lora says:

@Friedenmann: Would if I could! I’d love to get ahead. Maybe after this publishing stuff dies down, who knows. But I have too much non-drawing stuff to do these days. :(

@Angie: I’m glad your GN arrived safely bound and properly sized. ;) re: Freddy vs. the Colonel. Fred’s cute and all but… c’mon. If you had to pick? Colonel Knowlton all the way. Rawr!

I’m glad you’re all liking the dress sketches. I haven’t settled on a final design yet. Too many choices!

  13. deb says:

    Take your time. :D
The concept sketches are LOVELY but sure looks mighty hard to breath in. Eep

  14. Alex says:

Hhahahahaha, Okay. That meme? Single greatest one I’ve read in a LONG TIME… Probably because I actually knew the characters, but OOOH MAN. That was beautiful. YOU’RE MY FAVORITE.

Also: awwww yeah. New clothes. I feel excellent that that is happening for real. Love the hair drawings too…. I bet it used to give people sucha headache… guh. i get headaches just from pony tails!… Looks pretty though, I guess… Suffer for beauty D:<

  15. Ally says:

The new clothes look great! I can’t wait for next week to see the new issue! And Monday for the surprise! :-)

Fun Fact of the Day for History Fans- On this day in 1777, Congress appointed the Marquis de Lafayette to the position of Major General in the Continental Army.

Hey Lora, will he be making any appearances in The Dreamer!?

  16. NTxOkie says:

Ok, that meme rocked! And I hate those things even if I did not know what they were called before now!

    Cheers!
    Mark

  17. Vain says:

Just started reading the comic and I love it! :D Reminds me of Liberty’s Kids, that show on PBS. :) Very awesome. Good luck!

  18. Faith (The Other Faith) says:

Love the meme! Freddy + Liz = ADORABLE!!

  19. Erin says:

I’ve always loved how you design new costumes for different issues. It’s those extra touches that make it all more realistic! And those dress/hair designs look awesome! XD

  20. Sean says:

    Hey there, Lora!

I’VE FOUND A WAY TO GET THE BOOKS FROM BARNES AND NOBLE!!! :D You have to order them (as you would if a book were “out of stock”) and it arrives three business days later. It worked for me!

And I found two typos in “The Dreamer” while reading the GN. On this page:
    http://thedreamercomic.com/?page_id=79&px=%2Fissue_1%2F07_Issue_1.jpg
Liz says, “Plus you have to get a good costume!” But in the graphic novel, the word “to” is dropped from that sentence.
    And on this page:
    http://thedreamercomic.com/?page_id=79&px=%2Fissue_2%2F17_Issue_2.jpg
Nathan says, “Colonel Knowlton wanted notified when you woke up.” Is “to be” missing from between the words “wanted” and “notified”?
Just thought you’d want to know! :)

  21. Hannah says:

i just started reading the comic and it is addictive. i cant wait to see what happens next. i just hope that in the end of the comic she dosnt go off with ben. i am really looking forward to what is going to happen next. :). i wish i could draw like that but never in a million years would i get that close.

  22. enshogirl says:

Bea’s new dress concepts are looking great! I really like the design with the hat. I am curious to see the new colors of her outfit as well. Totally looking forward to the new pages… and Howe *cough*

  23. Angie says:

Ok, I now have my GN and It’s beautiful! See, I’m kind of at an age where Freddy is too young for me but Colonel Knowlton would be too old. I’ll stick to fangirling over Nathan, the perfect age and just the right amount of geekiness.

@Vain, I found the Dreamer while I was YouTube searching for Liberty’s Kids, the things that have happened so far in the Dreamer happen in the LK episode “New York, New York” if you were wondering.

  24. Hannah says:

Just ordered my GN!!!! After searching in every bookstore on the planet….if anyone needs international shipping, TFAW does a great job!

  25. Diana says:

Yummy 18th century clothes. Lora, you are marvelous at drawing saucy expressions.
